i share an internet connection with like 4 people... and one of them just downloads porn nonstop. It is preventing me from playing video games and slows down my internet surfing drastically. arg. is there ANYTHING i can do to like... cap his rate or something?

is he using a p2p program to download? if so you can block the ports and change the router password.

If you've got a spare PC, you can run a linux router soft on it to control bandwidth per PC.

Of course, it depends who owns the connection. if you're not the one who holds the account, then you're pretty much fucked.

You could withdraw your share and get your own connection.

So either you reach a compromise where he can schedule the downloads to run when you're not gaming (uTorrent does this, so does eMule depending on his network of choice), or he's not on your connection any more.

An entirely reasonable offer, as long as you explain how gaming differs from most other web activities and why it needs a clear line.
