HALO has a director!!!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I know a lot of you are HALO geeks like me and like me you've probably been wanting to hear about the status of the HALO movie being produced at Universal and 20th Century Fox, Weta Workshop and Digital signed on to bring the special effects, and Peter Jackson onboard as executive producer.
Well, the wait's over. A director has been chosen, according to Microsoft, a man by the name of Neill Blomkamp.
Before you start getting too worried that an untested director has been chosen to direct such a high profile movie, you should see his short film ALIVE IN JOBURG.

http://ia300227.us.archive.org/3/items/ ... mpr480.mov

On top of that, Blomkamp's short work includes that awesome Citroen dancing, transforming car commercial, the above ALIVE IN JOBURG and a great little short called TEMPBOT

I trust Peter Jackson's choice and looking at this dude's work, it's clear he can handle effects and an epic scope (JOBURG) and even more subtle character effects work (TEMPBOT). Let's hope he's up to the challenge!

im sure he'll either lay the story on too thick, do away with it or use the same subtlety of the games. either way, people will complain

only played it a few times, but it just seemed like a generic shooter - what was so special about it?

I think the only possible explenation for it's popularity is that Halo appealed to a whole new target group, with it being a decent shooter for consoles. And it had co'op, that was pretty fun.

I thought it was nothing special either.

What's Peter Jackson having to do with the film?

Has potential to be an awesome film. I liked those two clips, especially the alien invasion one. Good stuff.

I've never actually seen an Uwe Boll film.

One of the sites linked to Uwe on IMDB as an "official site" confirms the offer to fight anyone who says he sucks

Well, that's part of the explanation. It brought FPS MP gaming to the mainstream, plus it was a very heavily marketed poster child of the original xbox.

But there is also a rather intricate and compelling backstory, which is rather cleverly written to keep people speculating about the story and the characters. Bungie has a great track record for this kind of thing, and it has enticed both their old loyal die-hard fans and the new ones. You could say that the theorizing and the speculations by the old fans have created a mystique about the franchise that has bled over into the minds of the mainstream players, which is pretty interesting, since the strengths of the actual game lies in the MP, not the SP campaign (which is rather mediocre, especially Halo 2).

again, a terrible troll. either post using your real account or fuck off.

anyways, grudge kinda tells it like it is. bungie has always created books worth of backstories for their games, and always let this seep through ever so subtle in their games. hance, its a bit too subtle for the mainstream SP gamers who wil all cry 'no story!!1one'. pity, really

Yea, compared to most other FPS games, the Halo story is a Dostojevskij novel.

It was the first decent fps game with vehicles.
pfft...

Tribes - 1998

Still the best multiplayer game to date. Just a shame no one really plays anymore and the other two were shit.

Halo came out November 2001 for the xbox if i remember correctly.

What else were you playing in 2001? Quake 3? RtCW? Max Payne?

In other words, comapred to what was out at the time, Halo was visually stunning, had vehicles, had a damn fine single player plot, amazing music, and a fantastic MP mode... And it was ALL on a home console. The last time we got such a complete package was when Goldeneye was released, so it WAS a huge leap for the console world. It may of lost a little of its sparkle thanks to Halo 2's poor story/ending, but its still regarded as one of the most anticipated titles because we all loved Halo 1. Halo 1 may be a bit old now, many many games are better than it, but we are looking forward to it because its the next chapter. Same as Metal Gear. the first game owned, and even though we had the poor MGS2 and the better MGS3, we are lookign forward to MGS4 simply because its called metal gear solid. Doesn't matter that everything that made the original so fun for us is now taken out, no more stealth, all based on shooting etc, its called metal gear solid, so it will sell.

In other words, halo is popular because at the time of its release, there was nothing better than it. Its only retards who played it for 10 mins 3 months ago that cant see the appeal of it tbh.
