Matt Lauer: And yet you admitted that there were these CIA secret facilities. OK?
President Bush: So what? Why is that not within the law?
Matt Lauer: The head of Amnesty International says secret sites are against international law.
President Bush: Well, we just disagree with him. Plus, my job is to protect you. And most American people, if I said [to them] that we had who we think is the mastermind of the 9/11, they would say, “Why don’t you see if you can’t get information without torturing him,” which is what we did.
Matt Lauer: I don’t want to let this “within the law issue” slip though. I mean, if, in fact, there was water boarding used with Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, and for the viewers, that’s basically when you strap someone to a board and you make them feel as if they’re going to drown by putting them underwater, if that was legal and within the law, why couldn’t you do it at Guantanamo? Why did you have to go to a secret location around the world?
President Bush: I’m not going to talk about techniques. And, I’m not going explain to the enemy what we’re doing. All I’m telling you is that you’ve asked me whether or not we’re doing things to protect the American people, and I want the American people to know we are doing so.
I must say that Bush looked like a ten year old kid making excuses for setting his bedroom on fire. He's also ALOT more grey these days...I guess the "hard job of being presnit and protecting you" is starting to wear down the retard....God willing.
Another funny thing is that Bush keeps repeating that he "didn't want torture" but when Lauer brings up waterboarding Bush says he doesn't want to discuss "techniques we use on people".
Here we go again on what is or isnt "law". In that interview we've already got a distinction between "American Law" and "International Law" and its already clear there's a divergence of opinions in what aspects of current events are considered within each. Wahoo, nobody's got any power over what's being done, and bush knows that, so its all just rhetoric in the wind. "International Law"?...fucking please! Look at the feigned respect to this idea that Bush gives it in his responses, and ask yourself if it really means a damn thing in the long run.

didn't notice any feigned respect, looked like he snorted with laughter. haven't seen him being interviewed very often, is he always that rude and confrontational?

He's always very "direct" in that way, yes. It's not too polite either. By "feigned respect" I meant how he talks about adhering to international law.
I just get depressed when i see him on TV these days... with his senseless babbling and lies and fabrications... and his facial expression that seems to be frozen in some kind of 'please believe me' look.
There's no outrage anymore, just feelings of 'oh christ here we go again'.
notice how whenever bush does a 1v1 with a reporter and they ask him a tuff question he bow up on em and get about 3 inches from his or face?...trying to intimidate or whatever...well i like the way matt didn't back away from him like other reporters do...he actually moved closer...i thought they were gonna kiss....
a defining attribute of a government is that it has a monopoly on the legitimate exercise of violence...
