External NTFS hard-drive uninitialized -- currupt partition?

Post by glossy »

Hello again Q3W :), my story here is quite simple: I'm using my computer, but it locks up so I hard-reset, but once i'm back into windows my external hard drive (previously H: ) fails to show up. It's under device manager, disk management and my computer tells me "This device could perform faster if connected to a USB 2.0 port" when I plug it in, but it thinks the drive is "Not Initialized" and completely unformatted.

All my music, photos and assignments are on this drive, and I'm sure something in the FAT or the like could be easily currupted which would explain everything, but my problem here becomes restoring that data. I'm not really enthusiastic about sending it off to a data restoration specialist because it's going to be a pricey ask (160GB drive) for a hopefully simple fix. Can anyone help me out here?

Ontrack Easy Recovery may be able to help you out.

If it won't work at all through the USB connection I dunno what to tell you. :(

But...I know what I would do...
Gut it, and connect the drive properly then use Easy Recovery.

Ah!

Yeah, it's showing up just fine.
Something Like Easy Recovery Pro should help, no gutting necessary. :icon14:
