PB game stop at every new map load ?
PB game stop at every new map load ?
Did a search and got nothing related, possibly its just my install but anyways every time a server changes map I freeze for anywhere from 20-30 seconds. A message about receiveing PB client files appears just prior to the freeze. It eventually starts back up but very annoying and usually I have been fragged by then along with other players having 5-6 frags .
Before I reinstall I was just wondering if anyone has had this experience and if there was something i need to do during install.
thanks

Right on man thanks , much obliged and filled it out.
Trying to think what else it could be might start messing with video card drivers and the such .
Now not knowing anything about the players config files I'll start to have a look about as well for known issuses. In fact let list my setup and maybe someone will recongnize something .
Abit IC7-G p4 800 fsb 3.0 gig
1 gig dual channel geil golden dragon
2 15 k rpm seagte cheetah's in raid 0 LSI controller
Nvidia 7800 GS AGP of course
Have not changed any settings in the players config assuming there is one ? Playing at 800x600 resolution, using 1.32 patch and thats it. No mods installed , pretty much vanilla install .
See anything suspicious let me know if you will , would be greatly appreciative .
thanks

before we start getting all complicated and stuff... let's get this straight.
1) You are running the latest nvidia drivers ?
2) You installed q3 (full install) from the CD.
3) You patched to the 1.32 Point release. (you may want to also update to the 1.32c exe as well).
4) You updated Punk Buster using the pbsetup.exe
5) You don't have an autoexec.cfg in your baseq3 folder and you have not changed any of the settings).
6) You haven't installed any custom quake3 game content at all.
(Just checking we have a clean install).
Also can you list your OS .. (I'm assuming at this stage it's Windows XP).
Also is that 1 gig of ram you have listed there? Just checking I'm not up on Memory manufacturers. If so you may want to try entering quake 3 and then at the menu bringing down the console (tilde key above the tab key) and typing set com_hunkmegs 255 (sets the ammount of memory allocated to the game) and then pressing enter.
Give that a try and then we'll go from there.

Ok fora here are your answers and once again do appreciate it .
1. yes I am runining the latest nvidia driver
2. yes full install from the CD
3. yes I patched to 1.32 Point release (Ill try 1.32 c thx)
4. I have tried both ways through pbsetup.exe and manually updating
5. I stand corrected I have a config file which is called q3config is this what you are refering to ?
6. I have not installed any custom quake3 game content what so ever, it is a clean install as you have stated .
My OS is in fact Xp Professional and yes you are correct I have one gig installed two 512 meg modules running in dual channel mode .
My processor is also running in with hyperthreading enabled .
Prince 1000 great Idea man I will do so tonight I hope to have time, I'm guessing I should try joining non pb servers with pb disabled myself . I dont know if it matters and I can join with PB enabled , but I will try both .
thanks

Ok will do . Did get a response from PB and its kinda generic but claiming that the probable cause is some flaky hardware in my machine. Hmm not so sure about that response as it handles Fear , CoD 2 , Red Faction, UT, CSS, DOD source, and any other game i throw at it now. But in CoD 2 I have noticed a problem in one of my favorites servers , and yes it is a PB protected server . I connect , I move about a couple of feet then hard lock up and then the server kicks me .
Once again I will give your responses a shot and thanks again guys. Damn nice forum with good participation and support , very amazing and appreciated . Hard to find these days outside of my own community such a helping and supportive community .
