Digital Camera for £150~

Post by ilumos »

Can anyone recommend me a digital camera for under £150?

Criteria are: (aside from good quality pictures)
-Good battery life
-Excellent video performance (i.e. videos for more than 1 minute, with sound)

So far I'm looking at this Sony model: Sony Dsc-w50s, but I'd really appreciate some input from anyone seasoned in photography. Thanks loads :)

I have the DSC-W100. Great camera. The battery life is far more than I expected out of a digital camera. Does 640x480 video for as long as you have space on your card, with sound.

It has a high ISO rating, larger sensor size than most digicams, manual aperature (I think W100 only).

Cons: Proprietary Sony stuff, like Memory Stick Pro and their stupid USB/composite-in-one cable. Battery door is a little loose and can open sometimes by accident. Screen resolution is relatively low.

My other choice at the time would have been the Canon SD700 IS, only because it had image stabilization.

Care to actually recommend a product rather than a brand?

ilumos: Fuji's finepix or Canon's Powershot lines both appear to be decent cameras in that price range.

Excellent, I've had a powershot before, was great.
I've gone for the Canon PowerShot A540 and a dirt cheap 2GB SD card (£20?!)

Thanks loads for the input.
