Wii Owners

Could you please stop playing for about 5 minutes and give us the low-down review? :icon32:

What's the console like as far as performance, load times and such?

Are you finding the controls are easy - or do they put you off of playing?

What games have you played so far? How are they?

Throw a dog a bone, I don't have one yet! :p

Load time on the Cube rocked.

As in, they pretty much didn't exist.

I hope its the same for the Wii.

I've been posting in the Wii thread dude.

Performance rocks. The interface is very snappy and popping and out of games is a breeze. There are virtually no load times and if there is it takes like 2 seconds (in Zelda).

Controls do take some getting used to but after the first 30 minutes I fell in love. Very well done but some games implement the motion better than others. WiiSports is by far the best with motion control so far. The one downside to the controls is that you have to put a sensor strip on top your tv and keep the control pointing at it and stay within about 9 feet.

Zelda owns, Super Monkey Ball owns, WiiSports is very fun but more of a set of demos than a game.

Emulation: Sonic works very well, cost $8. Mario64 is the shit, cost $10. Gamcube games work flawlessly. Any emulated games that use only a d-pad and less than 5 buttons can be played with the Wiimote, any games with more require the gamecube control or a classic controller (sega genesis with dual analogs for $20).

Can't browse the web yet. Weather and News channels dont work yet.

Having some issues with my Belkin G+ MIMO router which is using WPA-PSK AES. But connecting fine to my neighbor's unsecure Belkin G.

Oh and you can use generic SD cards for memory cards (which means 1gb for $15) but the system has 512mb built in as well as some storage space on the wiimote for your profiles.

Extra controls cost $60 total :tear:

Pffft, you didn't post nearly that much info there.

Don't you understand that I'm living vicariously through you here?

wow thats good news.
Just curious but if it uses standard SD cards then what stops people from uploading any game they wish and sticking it on the wii?

Also, do you know if can you play games such as gamecubes metriod prime's and perhaps some old FPS such as turok with the wiimote?

The load times in Marvel Ultimate Alliance are as long as any other current-gen console. And the graphics in Zelda are les than impressive.

I find the Wiimote to be unwieldly and awkward. I'm just not used to having two separate controllers for each hand. I like the novelty of controlling a truck by "Steering" the Wiimote, but give me a regular analog stick any day of the week.

The menu system and rthe way games load are nice and smooth, but it all looks way too Fischer-Pricey to me. I'm not a fan of the bubbly shit.

Fury seems to like it, though. He and his girlfriend and my other roommate were having a lot of fun with those Wii Sports games.

Meh.

I think it's more of a party system for casual gamers.

If I bothered to try and get used to the Wiimote and nunchuck, I'm sure I could get used to them. Problem is, I don't have any incentive. I have a perfectly good PS2 and PC sitting right here.

Well if there's no incentive then you can't do much, eh? :)

The biggest thing I wonder about the new controller is if, after someone masters it over a period of weeks or months, it begins to feel more 'natural' and have a better level of control compared to a traditional controller or even a keyboard/mouse combo. If that's the case, then nintendo has really hit something revolutionary here.

I'm just wondering how long I'm going to have to wait before I can just walk in a store and buy one off the shelf.

I'm not calling stores every hour of the day trying to find out when their next truck is coming in, and I'm not standing around one all day waiting for it.

Guess I'll be out of luck for a while.

From what I understand, new shipments will be rolling in to stores weekly, so you may not have to wait too long.

i want one just for the sake of something new.

tbh that's why i'm not really interested in the ps3 at all. it looks nice, but am I the only one getting a bit tired of traditional shooters, FF type rpg's, etc., etc., etc...?

And unlike reef, I can't hype myself up for every game coming down the pipe as one of the best games ever. I think guitar hero has been the most pure fun I've had with a game in the last year because its just something different.

Black Friday.

Word on the street is stores that get shipment will be holding them to pull in customers for black friday.. Note the EB/GS promises of having at least 3 per store that day.. ;)
[size=75][i]I once had a glass of milk.

It curdled, and then I couldn't drink it. So I mixed it with some water, and it was alright again.

I am now sick.

I've tried my sensor bar on the top and bottom of the TV. So far, the bottom seems to look nicer, because it's somewhat hidden.

How is everyone else doing it?

Didn't read any other posts but here's my take so far:

Controls are fine. At the very beginning when we first loaded it up it was strange cuz I was so close. The way the controls act when you're really close makes it feel like you're so close that you're "touching" the screen, so to speak. So now we play about 6 feet back or so. The controls work fine, we have the sensor dealy up top. Very smooth, very responsive and very accurate as well.

The console itself looks pretty sleek, comes with a nice looking stylish stand and everything. Load times are almost non-existant. Takes about 1-2 seconds to load areas up, at least in Zelda. The graphics are pretty nice, but as we all know Nintendo is never too huge on graphics. The models still look blocky but they are getting better with each release. The model for Epona is actually pretty damn well done, so props to whichever Jap dude made that sucker. The animations are all top notch in Zelda though. They went a long way to animate little small things that we all do to make the players seem that much more realistic.

As for games, we just got Zelda and that sports shit that comes with it.. haven't tried sports yet. Zelda is too absorbing :paranoid:

Why's that? I'm not even 100% sure you need the sensor strip... we were using it for a bit before my buddy even set it up...it felt kind of strange though so maybe the sensor just makes it feel more natural.

well im sure the thing should know where the screen starts n stops, for isntance :)

but why, is because my consoles are at one end fo the room and the screen is projected on the other. normally not a problem but since this needs a dealio near the screen.. well that means i have to run a cable all the way through.
and i have a feeling its cable isnt 30 ft long :)

I wonder if the bar would work if you put it behind you... Or does it need line of sight to operate?

Honestly I'd rather have my eyelashes waxed out than be in the stores that day.

Fucking holiday releases. >=\
