Q3FX Mod

Post by Mulletman »

Hello! I am glad to have found a great place for Quake discussion!
Quake III Fortress Xtreme has been finally released! Are you tired of newer games that look great, but do not perform as expected? Are you wanting to play a great "Old School" shooter that may bring back some memories? Well, look no further! The staff of PlanetTFX.com has fixed and modded the original Q3F1H to bring this type of gameplay back to life again!

Here is what you need to get fragging "Old School".............

Quake III Arena (A fresh install is highly recommended)

Quake III Arena 1.32 Point Release update (Download HERE)

Q3FX 1.0 Full (Download HERE)
Note: Allow Q3FX to overwrite any old Q3F files if installed previously.

After install, please go to the directory (C:\Program Files\Quake III Arena\q3f) and find the icon to right-click and send to desktop and name it Q3FX. Also read the "Grenade Timers" and "Comms" to help enhance gameplay.

Start Q3FX from the icon you set or from the "Mods" section in Quake III Arena. Be sure to set your player name, bind keys for "grenades", "Special", "HE charge menu", etc. The "in-game" browser will show multiple Quake Games even when filtered, so I recommend to get the free game browser called "All Seeing Eye" (Download Free Here)

You can find Q3FX using the All Seeing Eye by selecting "Quake 3 Arena" and hitting the "Refresh" button. Open all folders under Quake 3 Arena named "Other" and select the last folder named "Other". Look for #Plusnet Q3FX server (Demon servers are running an older version and you will not be able to connect).

Here is an example.......................

We only have one server up at the moment thanks to our friends over at Wolfstuff for providing it! Be sure to visit them for Linux files and server news that will be up soon. Hopefully others playing this game will help out with more servers.

To connect without All Seeing Eye, simply start Q3FX, and pull down the console by hitting the "tilde" key next to the (1) on your keyboard that looks like this....... ~ Type this.................
/connect 212.159.6.229 then hit "Enter"
Or start Q3FX, go to "Multiplayer" then "Specify" and type the IP there and the port should be 27960.

More help and info on the game will be posted on the PlanetTFX.com Forums. For now, let's Frag!

What are the differences between Q3FX and the original Q3F? The website mentions bugfixes, some new maps and 'gameplay enhancements' but fails to go into further detail.

There really are not any differences between Q3F1H and Q3FX. It was just fixed and maps added to make it more enjoyable.

Nobody plays Q3F1H or Q3F2.3 anymore and we wanted to bring this great mod back to life again! Sure, there is always ETF, but some people prefer the Quake version.

There are now 2 servers up and running....................

#Plusnet Q3FX - 212.159.6.229:27960
Slashquit Q3FX - 202.172.112.203:27978

We actually filled the #Plusnet server late last night.

For anyone who downloaded Q3FX, we are setting up games for the weekend! We have been slowly gaining players and Q3FX has been downloaded 1500 times.

Evening for Euro and Aussie players and lunchtime for US players.

See you there.

Yes! You have the MAC version of Quake III Arena, update it to 1.32 and download the .zip Q3FX
http://files.filefront.com/Q3FX_10zip/; ... einfo.html

Unzip to your Q3A Directory. There is also a .rar version at http://www.wolfstuff.org

Read the FAQ............... http://z10.invisionfree.com/Fortress/in ... wtopic=321
