New Install, no game sound?

Thanks, Ijust installed Q3 Arena, everything seemed to go ok, demo movie had sound, but after that, nothing no sound!!. Game seemed to run ok, no lag , no gitters. When I exited game I would have to restart my computer to get sound back, installed latest patch 1.32, also installed IE 7 last week. Any suggestions welcome.

test directx

type dxdiag.exe in the start/run box

quake3 uses directx for sound

-update sound card drivers
-check the options menu for sound in quake3 and see if changing some settings helps
