I am very happy with the performance of the Xilisoft software

I have
DVD - WMV for my GPS
DVD - PSP

I have not tested or used DVD to iPod, but they seem the same. It's easy to use and packed full of compression options.

I used this awhile ago:

http://www.slysoft.com/en/clonedvd-mobile.html

Was easy to use and 'just worked'. However, the whole "watching DVDs on a tiny screen is really awesome" gimmick wore off pretty quickly... haven't watch a video on my iPod since two weeks after I got it.

Invest in a TV, they're much better for watching DVD's.

I couldn't watch a movie on anything smaller than a PSP screen.
