it did have one good line though:

mob guy #1: "goddamn commies!"
mob guy #2: "they're not communists any more, they're a federation of independent states."
mob guy #1: "don't make me hurt you, mikey."

Not without SERIOUS improvements in battery technology. The currents those things require are phenomenal.

Nuclear reactor and a couple of house-sized capacitors.

The funny thing is that these capacitors need to store 64 megajoules of energy. Imagine one of them is damaged and ruptures. Booom.

yeah, i like how they're all "oh its electricity so its safer than gunpowder"... but they seem to just glaze over the real posibility of a lightning bolt ripping accross the deck of a ship.

The next-gen carrier catapults are going to be electric, too.

I wonder what speed they accelerated those projectiles up to

"supersonic" + "covers 200 miles in 6 minutes"

you have to factor in the arc though

Garnett compared that force to hitting a target with a Ford Taurus at 380 mph. "It will take out a building," he said. Warheads aren't needed because of the massive force of impact.
the weight of the taurus's are 1383 kg - 1575 kg, and hitting at 380mph, the Weight of the projectile that they shot is 3.2 kilograms.

i would assume that the the shot was 600+ Mph due to the lack of weight of the projectile.

i really really cant wait to see more on this, it will change everything.

To bad it works on an artillery style projectile though, even though its not using Explosive it will still make un-needed damage both before and after its target.

I would imagine that it has a direct-fire capability as well.
Gotta love that v^2 :icon25:

ohh shit, yea, firing it straight on at a boat or somthing, i dont think they would even feel to much on the target other then a slight Jolt, then they would be taking on water like no tommorow.

That would be awesome :)

ah good catch:

ok: 1/2mvv = (0.5)*(1400)(170)(170) = 20230000 Newtons
to produce that energy with 3.2 kg:

20230000 = (0.5)*(3.2)(v)(v)

= 3556 m/s = 12800 kph = 7950 mph = over MACH 10 (upon impact)

That's fucking insane - would go through just about anything - i wonder how far into a mountain that would go (would depend upon mineral composition of mountain of course)

not very far, the projectile would evaporate and more or less turn into plasma upon impact (much like a tank shell does), and energy will spread explosively in every direction

The effect is really no different from using a high explosive, except that you won't need any explosives, it's just kinetic energy

Sounds like a neat technology though... too bad all we're gunna be using it for is destroying other people :olo:

Why don't we build spaceships and go fuck up aliens instead of ourselves?

I think they are referring to the huge MAC guns used by the UNSC ships and orbital defenses. You jump around on the outside of one of them on in the beginning of Halo 2.
