I've been a member here forever, but have hardly posted, so maybe I will now....
Anyway,
I created a map based from the 1st map on DII, the entryway.
Any feedback is great. Download it here
from PlanetQuake.

I downloaded this sometime back when it was announced at planetquake. I like the remake of the song that was converted. My opinion on it is really that it needs textures that are more related to Doom. I think Sock made a texture pack for that, also Amphetamine used some from IK for his map d2map01ultra. Interesting remake though.

When is someone gonna remake d1e1m1 for Q3A?

there's a screenshot on pq. just 1 though. I don't feel like messing w/ screens right now. ;)

Most of the textures for the map..let me count... 29 to be exact...were taken directly from the game DII.

[Edit]
Also, the water and the slime that i used in the map are shaders that i made that came from original DII textures.

Here's a couple urls to a couple more screens: 1 2

I made the solid brushwork a year ago. It´s the same layout in the same scale.
And it´s boring to play - so i skipped it.
If anyone wants to go on with it...

I think remakes should have something different from the original.

not sure if ur talking about my map, but in case u r, i didn't want to change it 2 much, since it came from a completely alternate game. I did, however make several multiple changes and 1 major change. (the water tunnel).

I mean, different brushes(details) for the same layout.

:)

There was one room that i made a pretty significant change to (speaking on layout). this was the room with the two columns in it and the secret door. (refer to picture "2" as posted above) I added a quite large slime pit to take up for the emptiness in the room.

i will admit however, that every room in the level has the same shape (ie. # of walls) as the original map.

Thanks to doom2.wad for all of the help ;)

Hmm, is it not illegal to pull assets from one game and use them in another?
I know even the use of Q3:TA assets in VQ3 is against the EULA. I have a very strong feeling that you will need to replace the ripped textures.

Please try to avoid typing with annoying abbreviations like "u r" and "2 much". This is a technical forum and it's too much of a headache to read. Thanks.

Agreed. Ripping textures and assets from one game to another is certainly against Id's EULA. Make your own textures inspired from the originals unless you are looking for some heat.

Thanks 4 your comments, but I didn't decide to post my map on this site, just so I can be flamed down. Doom II and Quake 3 are both made from ID Software and it is even included in my readme file that the textures came from Doom II.
Anyway, I'm not copyrighting and/or selling my map. It is an open source.
This is like saying it is illegal to generate your own version of Linux, although there are 100s of them.

and obsidian, u r 2 much.

Important distinction: The source code for Doom has been GPLed, the assets have not. So unfortunately you should not be using Doom assets in any other game, and it makes the Linux comparison completely spurious. You could try asking for permission, but id Software generally do not like content from one of their games being reused in another.

It ought to be reasonably easy to find some replacement Doom-ish textures - one of Lunaran's maps has a really good version of some of the base panels for example.

Also, you're not being flamed by obsidian - he is a mod on this forum and he's telling you the lie of the land in plain terms, which is that we don't allow/encourage ripped content here.

M8, no one is flaming you. It's just that some things are against copyright. If you had dedicated a lot of time, money and effort into the creation of a piece of art I am sure you would understand. No one is trying to diss you or your level, its just that this stuff belongs to id software and what they say we can do with their stuff is the bottom line.
