Car Thread.

Post by SOAPboy »

Ok so im shopping.

1997 Volkswagen GTI VR6

92k miles.

Under 6 grand.

Thoughts?

Im trying to not be picky here. Looking for something that CAN be fun to drive, 6 grand (USD) and under, under 100k miles. and reliable is well, a must. Mind you i realize you wouldnt be able to say X local car is solid, but id rather not go shopping for neons ya know?

Ideas?

It curdled, and then I couldn't drink it. So I mixed it with some water, and it was alright again.

I am now sick.

When you start the VR6 up, do you hear Ticing in the valves for a short bit?

is the idle smooth, and reving? ( you shouldent feel the motor at all, only hear it )

the Milage is a little high, check the HEadlight switch ( known to wear and some times catch on fire )

The Blowe control, Move it to all the speeds and make sure there is no Hesitation to the fan comming on, the Connections are known to Green and CAuse some issues, and the replacement part is a little Expensive.

Has the car been Mod'd at all?

there are plenty solid used cars, no sense paying an extra $1k just for a car brand (lol at noobs who think VW's are leet)
and 92k miles is too much at that price range

I had a lot of fun with my Probe GT. The turbo models are going to be at least 15 years old so I'm not sure if thats something you want to get into. But my '90 GT had 145/199 hp/tq and after I doubled the boost PSI it was definitely fast. Not as fast as the Z but it wouldn't lag far behind.

You could also get a late 90s Eclipse/Talon. Prelude/Civic with some N/A bolt-ons. A V6 Camaros or Mustang is just a big sled so I would stay away from those.
