There's thousands. From what I've heard stay away from some of the pubs in Soho unless you want to be charged a stupid amount and not allowed to leave until you pay.

london:
london's got something for every taste and enough dross to satisfy the undecided. as long as you know what you're looking for, you should be able to find it.

oxford:
nice architecture. don't get down there very often and could be totally wrong, but it seems to have next to buggerall else.

edinburgh:
stay in the city centre, within sight of a cctv camera if possible. great for a night out provided you catch the crowds in the right mood. during the day, once you've overdosed on 'quaint' then it's time to go.

dundee:
if you're in dundee then the A90 southbound is worth checking out, that's about it.

By pay i mean pay stupid prices. I.e. they state a beer is.. £5 but actually they end up trying to take you for hundreds of £s :)

The Angel in St Giles High Street (back of Denmark Street). The beer is cheap and it's good (Sam Smith's).

Regards Dundee, the best pub in town would probably be The Phoenix.

I hope you wear an anti-chav shirt as you walk through the dark alleyways.

Description of Scumdee hits the nail on the head... but you make special mention of Edinburgh being dangerous, and not London?
Lived in Edinburgh for 5 years now, found it safer to live, work and go pubbing & clubbing in than pretty much every city in England.
