Some help with getting the IDE?

Post by Mashtamark »

Please do not call me a newbie, I only wish to know.

I have been looking and looking for anyway to _legally_ compile q3a source, but I do not want to spend money (For I have none.). Is there ANY compiler than can compile q3a's .dsw and .dsp files? I really want to mod, but I don't have the money to buy Visual C++ 6.0 from Microsoft. I have Bloodshed-Dev C++, but I realize it will not compile it. Any plug-ins mabye? I am unsure of how this works.

Please note that I'm asking for a legal way to do this, if there is.

MinGW compiles ioquake3 cleanly and integrates quite well with Dev-C++.

Plus you can still get Visual Studio 2005 Express from Microsoft, legally, for free.

Both ideas sound great, I already have the MinGW install file, but I'm gawking at the ioquake 27mb install file. CURSE YOU 26K!
...Ahem.
Well, thanks, I'll look into both.

If the 26mb of ioq3 is an issue, then I think you're not going to like VS 2k5 EE + Platform SDK downloads ;)

if you just want to write a mod, not change the engine:
