Trekstor 500GB NDAS Ethernet/ USB external HDD

attached to my wifi router so I can access it wirelessly and it just has a drive letter. Great technique, love it. Slower then via USB, but I dont use it for massive file transfers, just backing up and downloaded stuff and music etc :)

all that for a measily $170 :D

Didn't even know an ethernet hdd existed... was going to test possibilities with a USB to Ethernet adapter I have though.

ow ys, they are normally quite expensive. Best thing is this can connected to any ethernet port (on a router/ switch though) and can be accessed normally via a drive letter. By multiple users as well, if need be

Very cool, thank you. I'll keep this in mind, especially considering the price of that thing. My largest hdd right now is 200gb and it was more than $170 at the time.

really need to look into these things for work, can any of the techheads here recommend for or against them?

we've got an old gentoo box with a raid setup as the fileserver for 20-odd users, never more than 10 concurrent - seems like a waste of time to maintain the thing if there are black boxes with 1-page manuals that can do the same job.

I think I'd just stick a hd in a spare box and run openfiler or some shit. Leaves room for future expansion as well.

well, I have one of those, an SATA external HDD enclosure actually and it really sucks, they tend to be very low quality.

this thing does RAID 0 and RAID 1 over the air, how good can it get? Plus, you can stick it onto a router, no need for direct connection to a PC. Really good for if you ar on a laptop, like me.

Now I use microsoft's synctoy to sync folders for backup purposes to the network attached box. Never lose any files anymore.
