Fucking iPod problems
Fucking iPod problems
I was playing a song, and at about 10 seconds left in the song, it started playing part of another song, that wasn't even next in the list. So I calmly just let it go, but it kept doing it, same song. So I went to play another song, and the song starts to play, but oops, everything is frozen. The song is playing and that is it, I tried doing the manual power off etc, but it won't shut off. I'm guessing I have to wait until the battery dies, but i'm wondering, is my ipod fucked? Should I send it back? :icon33:

try doing a "restore" using Apple's Ipod Updater first.

No it isn't. Apple has a great return policy, and incredible turnaround speed, and it will cost him nothing to send it in if its remotely new, so why fiddle with it for hours trying to get it to work, only to possibly fail down the road when the warranty is gone, when he can spend 5 minutes on Apple's site, 5 minutes, putting the ipod in the free-of-cost box they send him, and 5 more minutes calling DHL to come pick said box back up.Tormentius wrote:The above is terrible advice so disregard.Kills On Site wrote: so yea I'd send it back
Start by running the drive manufacturer's diagnostic applications on it.

Well here is what happened to mine, it started off by randomly freezing and the only way to unfreeze it was plug in into the AC and then reset it. Then the "song in song" started happening and other fucked up playback issues, then after restoring a few times it still didn't work right. So I did the easy thing and let Apple give me a new one.
Also another way to tell how fucked the HDD is, when transfering songs after restoring puyt you ear to the iPod so you can hear the mechanical hum and hear if the hum is constant or starts up, hums and then stops and does that.
Also Tormentius how do you propose someone find out who made the HDD in the iPod and even if their diag tools will work on an iPod?

Its called trying to fix a problem instead of RMA'ing a possibly fine piece of hardware. Its an interesting concept and one usually worth pursuing. The other bonus of at least trying to fix it is not having to wait around until they ship the same iPod back if a restore is all that was needed4g3nt_Smith wrote:

And its a good learning experiance.. Good to get to know your hardware..Tormentius wrote:Its called trying to fix a problem instead of RMA'ing a possibly fine piece of hardware.
