Game Keeps Slowing, Suggestions Please

Post by Lord Kram »

I'm getting really peed off about something at the moment.
Most recently every time I play Q3, in a server the game every now and then slows right down in a sort of jittery motion for about 5 secs (almost freezes) but then goes back to normal speed
Its definitely not my ping, because I have a constant ping of around 30-50

likely some shit on your computer stealing processor time... likely suspects would be things like anything made by Norton, an email program checking the server for new mail, etc.

when you're gonna play, shut down all the retarded background programs you can. this used to be standard practice when everyone was on pentium2 and desperately trying to get up to 125fps (i remember going into the task manager and shutting down system utilities :) ), but now that everyone has 1.5GHz and 512MB ram they don't think about it.

First thing to check is :
click on :
Start / Run / and type - msconfig
browse to the start up folder and uncheck everything that you don't need. Save and restart.

might be a bad idea to throw a somewhat "advanced" windows command at someone that may have very little experience at what could damage the overall functionally of his system...

like menkent said, go through and shut all the bs off not needed to play the game, run graphics, internet ect...

if that works, kill each process one by one until the problems is resolved. then you'll find the culprit.

Also posting specs would be a good start.

Not in this instance, as if its running acceptably half the time then we can say it should run acceptably all the time, irrespective of spec.

Though some details on software i.e. firewall and antivirus, OS, service pack and windows updates would be useful.

omg my compooter is teh slowz!1 how i make it fast like leet makaveli's lol??~

people always used to whine about this and after a while they'd admit they had kazaa and two other shit filesharing programs running. it's the intardnet's built-in natural selection.
