college is getting so expensive.

Post by Dr_Watson »

got my bill today
07/18/2007 Tuition $ 8,695.00
since we run quarters with the summer optional...
x3 brings this year up to : $26,085 + fees & books.

makes me wonder what it felt like to be the previous generation. when you didn't have a mountain of debt on your back before even starting a career.
certainly doesn't help that i've been having to pick up alternative private loans which don't have deferred interest.
So i'm already in the hole for 2k worth of juice on those puppies.

sigh... 2009 is going to be a scary year. :icon21:

My tuition is $12,700 a semester, so with my rent it comes to $36,400 per year. That's not even counting the "Mandatory Laptop Program" which is another $3,000 for the new Macbook Pro. I'm pumped to declare bankruptcy :icon14:

By jingo, that's pricey, I only owe about £11-12k for 4 years.

So instead of worrying about that too much, when I get my first proper paycheck I'm gonna buy an XBox and some clothes.

riddla wrote:whew, glad I went to school in the early 90s when tuition was less than a grand per quarter. Auburn jacked it up bigtime when they moved to semesters and havent looked back since.
i was supposed to go in 1997, but i decided to be a loser for a while.
but then it was the 90's and everything was peachey.
i had no ability to see that GWB would pop in and totally ass-fuck the economy.

deflating that number down to 1997 price-index it's only $20,300
which is pretty close to what it actually was to goto the same school (~$18K IIRC).
Would have been easier to afford then too, as it wouldn't be all on my back. back then my parents had somewhere near 4x their current income (before motorola lay-offs fucked my dad and wal-mart ate the retail chain my mom was climbing the ladder of).

ahh... the good old days.

Wow, some of those tuition costs are insane :icon20:. Good luck getting a job that pays enough to make ends meet on those loans straight out of university.

Remember you crazy kids, declaring bankruptcy won't eliminate student loan debt. Dying, however, will do quite nicely in that regard (i.e. your parents, fuckbuddies, kids or whomever won't have to deal with it).
