Explain me something. If ginger means redhead, why is actual ginger yellow? Or to better put that: when ginger is actually yellow, how did the word become a slur against redheads?

Yellow? I've always thought of ginger more of an orange colour, rather than yellow. Rattan is more like yellow.

Red heads are not red, but ginger, as well... So that makes no sense either...

suppose it depends on when you look at it and what of ginger root it is. yellow/orange when mature cleaned and still fresh. though when its immature and sliced (like when served with sushi) it's quite pink.
not sure the origins of the slur, i was just quoting southpark.
And from my unserstanding ginger doesn't refer to red-heads... but those with orange carrot-top hair and freckles.
I've seen plenty of irish red-head hotties that don't have freckles and hair that is more red than the pale orange associated with gingerism.

I kind of wonder what ginger root you use that is pink rather then green when unripe... but as a rule, when i can't find something with google in 45 seconds i reasess the importantness of my search and tend to abandon it when it's not up to this vague set of standards i have.
