Along with id Software's new IP, Rage, two new incarnations of Quake 3 are being developed.
The first is codenamed Quake Zero, a FREE web based version of Quake 3. Yes, web based, as in you play it in your browser. id Software stated that they hate seeing q3 losing it's predominance in the gaming scene. This would allow anybody with a computer to play online matches. They also stated that they would like to eventually expand Quake Zero to their latest id Tech 5 engine. The game will rely on ad revenue, but hey, what do you want for free?
The second is Quake Arena Arcade, a version of q3 on xbox live.
In other news, id Software has made pretty much all of their games available on steam, so those who are having a hard time finding a copy of q3, your prayers have been answered. You can download the entire package (all games including expansion packs) for 70 bucks. I guess theres a 10% discount if you buy before August 10th.
There was also some Wolfenstein shit going down, but I don't believe they released any info other than the multiplayer is being developed by Threewave Software... oh, and they're making a movie.
Some interesting developments from Quakecon. If everything goes as planned, q3 isn't going away anytime soon.
