John Carmack gives a walk through of how the id Tech 5 engine works & how it will benefit game development.
He also gives a hands on preview of how artists will interact with the MegaTexture to add detail to the game world.
He also mentions that Rage will ship with "id studio", the tools they used to develop Rage.
Shacknews has the 50+ minutes demonstration of the id Tech 5 engine done by Matt Hooper of id software at this years QuakeCon.
The full presentation is 849MB and there is also a streaming version available. Also, there is a 8min walk through HD version.
The texturing reminds me a lot of the way the Starcraft editor used to work. This is fantastic stuff from both a developer and graphics standpoint. I imagine that development times and mod communities will benefit immensely from this. 5 level designers working on the same map off of a server?
Anyone have a download link to the third tech demo video?

It uses real time preview so yah it'd make more sense to include it as part of the game rather than having two mismatched environments (editor being out of step over time with the game and visaversa).
