Anybody watching Human Weapon?

Post by feedback »

Finally a martial arts show that isn't full of shit. Basically it's a show on History channel/isohunt where two guys, one; a pro MMA fighter, and a pro football player/wrestler travel to a country, learn their famous martial art, and at the end, pit themselves against a master in that style. There's still some bullshit that I'm surprised they swallow given their experience, but for the most part it's a really good show. Episode 2, the escrima one, is really good. First episode was muay thai, current (3rd) is karate. Definitely check it out, very entertaining.

I was amazed when that karate master split the baseball bat in two. There's some crazy shit that can be done with the human body, which is nicely visualized in those CG demonstrations.

Check out the escrima episode, that shit is intense. Final match = steel bar with foam on the outside, no protective gear.

I saw something called "Fight Science" on the National Geographic Channel a few months ago. It was pretty cool...basically, a bunch of scientists measure a bunch of shit (speed, reaction time, hitting power) from dudes practicing various disciplines. They had them do all sorts of stuff (breaking shit, pole walking, weapons). Not being a martial arts junky I was nevertheless intrigued. There was some BS about 'mysticism' 'legends' and such, but the science parts were fascinating. Check it if re-airs.

That one was alright until they whipped out the monster-cock of BS, ninjas, and decided that a gymnast could beat everyone.

The savate episode is out now, it's supposed to be pretty good, save for one bullshit mention of "driving the nose into the brain" :olo:

I've watched the Muay Thai and Eskrima episodes. Definitely a good show, although I would like to see the big guy fight someone.

Then watch the karate episode. The guy doesn't know much about fighting though, he compares everything to football every episode and I suspect he's there as a loveable oaf. The show would be better with Jason alone, imo.

What country do they go to learn Karate? I don't know the origin of that style, but I'd like to know.

I'm really failing to see what's so great about this show. They learn something about a martial art, then have a gay play fight at the end of the episode. Yay. I watched the beginning of the savate episode last night, got bored after about 10 minutes and erased it. Of course, it did have a lot of Fronch people in it, so that may have done it.
