QuakeCon encompassed multiple games so I figured this would be the best forum :P.
I did a bunch of video interviews directly after the event which we're just getting up now, of four of the top players in the Quad-Damage tournament as well as the top two ET:QW teams. Players and teams interviewed include Johan "toxjq" Quick, Magnus "fojji" Olsson, Alessandro "Stermy" Avallone, Tim "DaHanG" Fogarty from the Quad-Damage tournament, with Team Dignitas and Team HOT from the ET:QW event.
The first interview up is that of Toxjq. Johan "toxjq" Quick didn't believe he would win QuakeCon 2007. Luckily for him the SLANT system didn't agree and Quake 4 was chosen as the random third map for all three of his biggest matches. Quick talks to Gameriot's United States of America Rod "Slasher" Breslau about his winning QuakeCon 2007 run, the upcoming WSVG Toronto event vs Poland Maciej "av3k" Krzykowski and his thoughts on his longtime teammates' struggle against him. "I think Sweden [Magnus] fox [Olsson] needs to watch more demos of himself playing and try to see why he's losing. It's not always about hitting your rails or hitting your shaft. You have to have some special tricks that only you know. Don't play so defensive, even if its a final. Sometimes you need to take big risks."

I'll bump the thread with each new interview as I get them up. Hope people enjoy =p

Team EG's Tim "DaHanG" Fogarty was the best placing American at this year's QuakeCon and defeated longtime Swedish Quake 2 monster Mikael "PURRI" Tarvainen in the process. His third place finish here gives him two top three's in a row and three best top five's in a row, with no slowing down anytime soon. Fogarty talks to Gameriot about his difficult match vs Rafik "LoSt-CaUzE" Bryant, his unlucky Quake 4 draw vs Johan "toxjq" Quick and his defining Quake 2 win over Tarvainen. "I don't think PURRI played any different than how I expected him to, at least. Usually he can just get away with playing aggressive, and trample over people because he's smart with his aggression and has real good aim. He thought he could walk over me in the beginning and he payed for it. I think I played smart and deserved the win instead of him giving it to me."

Alessandro "Stermy" Avallone arrived at this year's QuakeCon purely for fun. He found out that he was allowed to go to QuakeCon just two days before the event started, and had never played QuakeWorld or Quake 2 in his life. Avallone speaks to Gameriot.com about his QuakeCon 2007 experience, thoughts on a FPS 1v1 DM game in the Championship Gaming Series, and what he'll be doing in the league's off-season. "Right now I'm trying to understand if I'll be able to play in other tournaments. Maybe you will see me playing Quake 4 again on some [WSVG] stops, if I'll be able to and have time to practice."

Magnus "fojji" Olsson was one coin flip away from winning his first ever major international Quake event. Unfortunately for him, two-headed quarters don't come up tails. If QuakeWorld, Quake 2 or Quake 3 were picked as the random map in the final, there's a really, really good chance that he would be this year's champion. For now, he will have to once again look up to Johan as he stands above him on the winning stage platform. Olsson talks to Gameriot about his heartbreaking loss to Johan "toxjq" Quick in the grand finals, as well as Quick's statement that Olsson's consistent demise is all in his head.
"There's no doubt that it came down to the coin flip if he was going to win the final or not. I think I would have even a better chance on ztn than he would have in Quake 3. If I got any of the other games, I had it, and if he got Quake 4, I was in for an uphill battle. Somehow, the powers of the universe felt he needed $20,000 more."
