Hey I have an odd question!

Sorry I haven't been around much lately I have been spending my time adjusting to my new job at Nerve and have been pretty busy in general.
Well anyway I have been working on an Unreal tournament 2004 level lately and I have it nearly completed now but I don't want to skip posting it here simply because all of my community levels I have always posted here lol..
So since the topic of this forum is level design and modeling do you think it would be ok if I post shots and ask for feedback on a UT2004 level?
I might make another quake 4 level to bribe with lol..

Sure, post a thread, why not?
I don't even have UT installed, but I'm sure you'll get feedback from people.

Ooo... congrats on working at Nerve.
This forum is generally aimed at "id Software and friends" game development, but certainly not exclusively so. We've chatted about editing for other games, so I don't see why we can't post maps for other games too.

This forum has always been more about the community than the games I think, so go ahead and post them.
(of course, ignore any pitchforks/vats of tar/feathers that you may see... they're purely for recreational purposes only...)

cool!
thanks for all the responses!
give me a couple more days to get things set up.
I have one last very large set piece I need to model for the main atrium area of the level then I will post it here just like I do with my Quake levels!
right now I am not entirely sure if there is a good solid forum like this one for other games like UT, painkiller, and half life.
Perhaps it would bring more people here if it was more open to more games. well I suppose it is open to other games.
technically id did start all of it anyway so it isn't entirely off topic!
Anyway here comes my first community UT map !

Yeah, post it up Castle, I look forward to seeing what you've done for UT. Also, congrats on the Nerve job.

Hey guys
this week I decided that it would be best to release the level early or mid next week so all I have done today is a preview of the level.
http://lacedneptune.planetquake.gamespy.com/
anyway next week I will be back here with a full post like I do with my quake levels with a the actual beta 1.0 of the map.

oh man... i was entirely joking. castle's work is so good that it's like looking at a painting
i just thought that it's funny to call something fake that is obviously not... maybe i should have said forgery instead!!

Lol, k.
Looks good indeed, and it reminds me of Morrowind. Shame it's for Unreal (and thus I can't play it).

I have so little interest in game play, so I can say this:
I always thought UT2k4 maps could look so good. Maybe for us id based designers, the maps were not 'well made', but they looked so pretty.
This looks like a serious return to form indeed. Very very nice. If only my UT DVD still bloody worked.

For the love of god please break the UT tradition of placing 2 ammo packs beside a weapon. Spread them out and force people to move around the level. Ammo should be a destination / resource to control.

Agreed. I always found that annoying in UT. Even though you don't want to camp, it kind of forces you to.

LOL!!!!
this is sooo damn true ..
In fact I did this just because I figured that if I did break the tradition UED would spit it out as an error.
Ok I tell you what.
This will be a UT map that has Quake style item ammo placement..
Cliffy B might have my skull for this lol...
edit: Actually I think the reason for this tradition is to balance out ammo amounts even when the server is set to weapons stay. That way people can get ammo if they already have the weapon by running near the spot the weapon is located. Honestly that is the best guess I can come up with
