Energy drinks
Anyone here have a favorite brand? It's damn hot down here in the dirty south and I've been looking into some different energy drinks. I tried a 5 Hour Energy Shot on Wednesday and it was great. I drank it at about 5:45PM and felt great all through jiu-jitsu class, didn't feel tired until about midnight. No crash, no jitters, just felt alert and energized. I think it helped my endurance slightly, but it's definitely no substitute for good cardio conditioning.
I drank a Monster Lo-Carb today, it tasted great and worked well, for about two hours. Dozed off in my cube right after lunch. I'm trying to avoid drinks with shitloads of sugar and caffeine, that's why I liked that 5 Hour drink, tons of B vitamins, ginseng, and taurine.
Suggestions?

Re: Energy drinks
Do you specifically mean taurine/caffeine red bull-type things?
I don't like to drink them too much, but when I need to (12 hours of immunology lectures for 6 days straight) I go for Rockstar, mainly because it's cheap, tastes ok, and makes my piss turn green.
The Rockstar Juice stuff is pretty decent. You can get the pomegranate juice for the same price as regular rockstar, and at least it seems a BIT healthier than the other stuff.
Downsides: can't drink a whole can in one sitting. And it makes me jitter hardcore and I get diuretic. Then again, any caffeine does that to me.

Re: Energy drinks
The real Thai Red Bull actually keeps you boosted unlike the fizzypop version everyone else knows:

sugar free red bull isn't too bad, it doesn't have much of a crash. that 5 hour energy shot is the best one i've found. and avoid snake eyes at all costs
Re: Energy drinks
They all basically have the same caffeine as a cup of coffee.

Yes, I'm referring to drinks like those reviewed here: http://www.screamingenergy.comwerldhed wrote:Do you specifically mean taurine/caffeine red bull-type things?

I'm not sensitive to caffeine, I make rocket fuel when I brew coffee. Up to now I'd been stopping at a Caribou Coffee about three mornings a week and getting a Depth Charge, which is a 20oz. coffee with two shots of espresso in it.

Rockstar Zero Carb has something like 240mg of caffeine in it, but it will make me crash.
As I said, the 5 hour was AWESOME, but it's got 8333% of your RDA of B12.

I've read that 'Steven Segal's Lightning Bolt Asian Experience' energy drink should be avoided like the plague. That review site I posted described it as 'Segalicious'.

Re: Energy drinks
As I've said, I'm not really looking for a massive caffeine dose, anyway.
Re: Energy drinks
Packed with sugar and all kinds of chemicals, no thanks.
