Cant delete a Folder ( NTFS )
i've been fighting with this for the past two days, all i'm trying to get SP2 on this damned Server 2003 Box.
And i'm getting the Stupid error message "Setup can not Verify install.ini. Make sure the Cryptographic service is running", i followed the Micorosoft KB guide, and i cannot delete the catroot2 folder in the system32 Dir.
i need to atleast delete that folder so windows will re-create it and hopefully that will get this software installed.
But the Weird part is that there is no owner listed to the folder, yet its all locked down.
Anyone have some idea's how i can delete/rename/attrib the folder so i can finally move on?

Re: Cant delete a Folder ( NTFS )
i cant, simply put..
When i click on Properties of the folder ( when i'm logged in as administrator ) All i get is the general tab, nothing more.
i have checked the ownership of the Root folder and etc and made sure i was there and got it to re-apply the ownership to all files and subfolders. still no go. :/

Thanks cooldown, but its not that a process/app has control of the folder, its that the folder is there with the security enabled and no Owner or anything on it.
so i am unable to touch it, i wish it was as simple as that..

Guess this'll teach you to warez a server OS you don't even need. :P
Recovery console?
Recovery console?
Re: Cant delete a Folder ( NTFS )
Unless I've misread this, you don't take ownership by clicking properties. Try booting into safe mode and then try to take ownership that way. Right click on folder, click sharing and security, then click security, then advanced, then click the owner tab.

ha.. ha.. ohh.. man.. ha! ha! ha!
Damn, i forgot how funny you where trying to be..
yes, i've tryed that, but again, its unable to do anything with the folder due to permissions.
Also, Dont assume that each and every person That post's and issue downloaded the software.

Well if that response was to me...
You've tried recovery console? It generally bypasses all security stuff. If it still gives you permission errors in the console then it's probably either corrupt or encrypted. You'll need some software to get it fixed. I don't have any to recommend, but you can probably find a decent linux CD-BOOT image with some recovery tools for windows.
I don't assume everyone who posts has downloaded the software. But, Windows Server 2003... c'mon. If you had a legitimate need for this, and were spending that kind of money on software, you'd have a better avenue for support than here.
