So yeah i'm fucked and need a new mobo

Post by Fury »

as per my other thread, my comp will no longer turn on. period.
so after trying a new power supply still nothing, no little power on light on the mobo (yes i checked the PSU and it was on) and when i press the power button absolutely nothing.

i'm reasonably certain this is a motherboard issue as in any other case i'd probably get SOMETHING, and i tried a different PSU with the same end result so i don't think it's a power supply thing. so if you guys think it's anything else please let me know.

otherwise it's impromptu upgrade time
i'm looking at this one for a slight and cheap upgrade.
if i were to install this would i need to reinstall windows XP? (it's a different chipset)

before you go further check the motherboard for bloated, bent, cracked, contact broken or leaking capacitors.

smell the motherboard .. if she smells burnt she is probably burnt.

take out every hardware card except the video card.. disconnect hard drives..everything.

even with a blown cpu you still get something happening .. it will poweron but no video output .

it sounds to me like the motherboard.

bummer man

Bad mobo.. or PSU.. at least thats what i think..

You can test the PSU.. if you dont have another one.. unplug everything from it.. plug 1 fan into 1 molex, do the whole paperclip trick for the power as seen here http://www.duxcw.com/dcforum/DCForumID3/447.html

You should probably read the thread before posting, soap.

You will most likely need to reinstall Windows, esp if they are different chipsets.

Hell I had a computer not POST once because the NIC was slightly out of place in the PCI slot

Yes. CPU and meory changes don't require a reinstall but switching motherboards or video card vendors (ATI to Nvidia) will require you to reinstall XP.

If its the same chipset, you can get around reinstalling windows..

tho, id suggest reinstalling anyways..
