i've upgraded my media center to Vista, and i have a few folders that are shared ( recorded TV, My video's, the D: HDD, etc )
and it seems the only way to get to the shares is logging into the SMB Share, then accessing them.. that in itsself is fine, but i have a few other computers that need access to the shared files/folders Without logging in.
is there any way to set the SMB share to allow EVERYONE access?
p.s. i went though the share Security and add'd "EVERYONE" full acess, but it still prompt's for a user/pass :/
Vista SMB Folder sharing
Re: Vista SMB Folder sharing
Add accounts to the machine with the shares, that match the username/password on the machines you want to connect with. Or create accounts on the "client" PCs that match an existing account on the "server."
XP is sort of retarded about "everyone." It means "all authenticated users."

So basically what you are saying is you dont know of a way either...
there is a way to have shares that dont need authentication, its a matter of finding it.

I had some problems figuring it out too, as usual Microsoft makes easy thing complicated:
First of all enable the Guest account in your User Accounts control panel.
Then add the Guest account to the sharing permission of your folder and change the permissions as you wish.
Then in the Network Center be sure that file sharing is enabled on your LAN connection.
It should be working now.

Re: Vista SMB Folder sharing
i shall give that a go, right now as it sits..
the other networked computers can connect to the shares without logging in, but my computer needs to log in still... its rather funny
i shall give that a go next time i'm on my puter.
