First off, don't post anything about noob alerts, or that joysticks suck. I know this, but right now I can't play the game with a keyboard and mouse, so I've been trying to get my xbox controller to work with quake3. I go into the setup menu and toggle the joystick on, but when I try to set the buttons to a command it doesn't respond. I can bind them in the console but the controller just doesn't seem to work at all. It works fine in other games (soldier of fortune, america's army, etc) but not quake 3.
I'm running ubuntu feisty fawn (7.04) if that makes a difference at all.
Thanks in advance.
Issues getting a joystick to work
Re: Issues getting a joystick to work
I think you'll prolly have to go with the icculus Q3 build to get joystick going on SDL

any reason why idtech3 won't work with it?Foo wrote:I think you'll prolly have to go with the icculus Q3 build to get joystick going on SDL

You're prolly missing the lib for whatever input tech they used. All I know is the icculus build supports SDL and you should be able to find SDL for your os pretty easy.
Re: Issues getting a joystick to work
Hello,
New to the forum, have enjoyed playing QuakeIII Arena against the bots for a number of years now. With the advent of the 360 controller compatability to PC's, i REALLY want to use this to play QuakeIII Arena on my PC. (i know everyone screams about using a mouse and keyboard, but its just not for me anymore).
I have success with the Xbox 360 controller in QuakeIII Arena, but 'only mostly. Every function on the joystick works fine EXCEPT for the LEFT/RIGHT function of the right-hand stick. Does anybody know how to fix this problem? Its same across two laptops and one PC that I've used. W/out the turn left / turn right function of that stick using the controller becomes mostly unrealistic, and bums me out.
Thanks if you have any advice (other than 'use a mouse'). I'm not at all familiar with the topics of "icculus build supports SDL" and if that will fix my prob or what that even is...

icculus / ioquake3 => http://ioquake3.org/
It's the open sourced Q3A engine. Comes with lots of bugfixes and enhancements. Give it a try, it might fix your problems.

Re: Issues getting a joystick to work
thanks for that, i downloaded and am playing that now instead. But it didn't fix the joystick issue. I'm stumped. The joysticks works correctly with Halo, but not QuakeIII. I want to try Doom3 but I'm not convinced it will work right. Huh.
Thanks anyways!
