why does ice release all the fucking carbonation?
why does ice release all the fucking carbonation?
I hate how you can't really use ice with a room temperature brand new cola, it just tastes like week old shit.
what's the deal?
it's gotta do something with trying to balance out the temperature between the two but I am too lazy to think as to why all the carbonation goes to shit in the process

Re: why does ice release all the fucking carbonation?
It's best to just chill the fuck out of it and drink it without ice. Notice how vending machines have the coldest and best-tasting Cola

Re: why does ice release all the fucking carbonation?
Vending machine soda is a step above store-bought cans. The soda from fast food places is the best. There's a better syrup-to-water ratio.
I still prefer water, though.

so, if you want to drink cold drinks, chill them before drinking them

takibro man i am sorry for when i got abit curt with you when you said you couldnt tell wtf i was saying.
anyways maybe you can try cooling a heavy-bottom glass in the fridge and useing that to add a little coldness to the cola.
the freezer will work also, but it will bruise your cola, its still fun just slurpyish!
best of luck man!

Re: why does ice release all the fucking carbonation?
The solution to your problem is tea.

Re: why does ice release all the fucking carbonation?
Room temp cola always tastes like shit, ice or not. And once you open a pop, the amount of dissolved CO2 the pop can hold goes down as the pressure is equalized. The ice waters everything else down as well.

I guess I'm not the only one that favours fast food dispensed cola. I don't drink any cola regularly because I don't like the sugar-laden taste, but with a satisfying meal it's somewhat appetizing.
Should mention that even with our stronger dollar, fast food is more expensive in the frigid white north, probably a net benefit to our healthcare system though.

I have always believed as well that a satisfying meal makes for a pleasurable cola drink experience.

that would certainly solve the problem of chilling a drink without the use of ice, no question
Re: why does ice release all the fucking carbonation?
i have a diet coke from the machine every morning after my 6 mile ride to work, even on freezing mornings. i tried bottled water (because where i work it's free) but it just didn't have the same zingMassive Quasars wrote:I don't drink any cola regularly

yes coke, and I know that I need to cool my drinks that's what I do, but there is the odd time when I come straighg from the store looking for a refreshment and ice just doesn't cut itLANKe wrote:What soda are you drinking? Coke?
Re: why does ice release all the fucking carbonation?
I guess there isn't an obvious answer to my question
and when I mean it tastes like shit the dilution in the water(ice) doesn't take place yet, I mean as soon as you introduce ice into the room temperature cola it goes to shit within 2 seconds
ps
I drink diet coke to be precise

Sure, take a simple suggestion and make a mockery of it's obviousness. You're that kind of person aren't you?seremtan wrote: so, if i want a cold drink with no ice in it, i should chill the drink first?

Smartass.
Re: why does ice release all the fucking carbonation?
Add scotch or bourbon to put the bite back into your iced cola.

Re: why does ice release all the fucking carbonation?
yeah but not the carbonation
Re: why does ice release all the fucking carbonation?
could have something to do with the surface of the ice cubes providing ample nucleation sites for the CO2 + the change in pressure + warm soda probably releases CO2 faster to begin with.
top tip - use the ice on the outside of the container, not in your glass.
plug your sink, fill it with cold water and ice cubes.
drop your soda in there while you put away the rest of your groceries.
it takes < 5 min to chill cans in an ice-water bath.
in even more of a hurry? a quick blast with a fire extinguisher will work.
or you could try dry-ice cubes, those may even put CO2 back into it.

Re: why does ice release all the fucking carbonation?
now that's what I call a post

Re: why does ice release all the fucking carbonation?
nucleation sites are the reason mentos and coke make a fountain.
Also - are you one of those people who keeps no cold soda at their house? I have friends like that - you'll be over there for dinner or a football game or whatever, and they'll bring you out a nice warm pepsi from the fucking pantry and some grimy fucking glass with some ice cubes. Those people piss me off. They own a refrigerator. It's not full. They can keep the shit cold.
Fuck them.
And going to the dry-ice external bit to get more dissolved CO2 into the drink is taking your soda drinking to another level.

Re: why does ice release all the fucking carbonation?
I keep all my sodas cold in my frig. No hot give outs from me. That's just rude.

Re: why does ice release all the fucking carbonation?
yeah, the mentos thing (also has something to do with the reaction with aspertime which is why it only really works with diet) is why i guess that the rough surface of ice is a likely candidate to why a soda fizzes like mad as soon as the cube sinks in.tnf wrote:nucleation sites are the reason mentos and coke make a fountain.
