Sound card suggestions?

Post by andyman »

My sound card is dying. My power supply died today, and I replaced that 500W with a 650W, but I think I may have moved the magic dust around too much and the sound card is playing games with me. It's an OLD sound blaster audigy. What do you recommend to replace it? I am really looking for a 5.1 card. I'll decide on a price after I see some examples, I don't know where to start.... actually I do, but what do you recommend.

this is the power supply i got... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6817702003

Dolby Digital encoding (you can hook it up to your home theater surround)...uses the x-fi chip for gaming.

Yeah unless you're planning on professional recording, any high-quality mobo will have excellent audio. Loving the Realtek HD on this 680i SLI

We're not quite there with on-board sound if you're a serious gaymer or media person, short of studio sound wonk of course.

Still worth getting a decent seperate card.

I used onboard sound for about 7-8 years, through a dozen or so motherboards. Told people it was silly to be buying soundcards.
Then I started having problems with sound in some games early this year. Eventually I upgraded motherboard again and had other issues with sound again. So I bought an X-Fi, and now I see the error of my ways. Won't be going back to integrated realtek solutions.
