For a pre-built PC
For a pre-built PC

Does that seem pretty good? I was planning on making a system myself, but if this thing is only costing me like $50 more to buy pre-built vs custom, then I'd much rather go with the pre-built.
Also, has anyone actually gotten a rebate back? $-100 seems like it'd actually be cheaper vs a custom built.
Also allows one more 8800GT and 2 extra ram slots.

Re: For a pre-built PC
I didn't think it made a difference who offered rebates since various friends said their rebates never worked for various products.
Yes, the 100 dollar rebate is from iBuypower, and their pdf says its only availible for no more than a couple weeks.

Re: For a pre-built PC
ya, rebates dont always work, i've been stiffed once on a rebate, and am currently awaiting a $35 rebate on the ram i bought from OCZ technology so will see how that turns out.
normally i prefer buying stuff without rebates unless i know for 100% that i'll get some back

Re: For a pre-built PC
I have a trusty feeling for iBuypower. I dont think 100 dollars would be easily scammed as much as 20 or 30 dollars. I tried making my own PC with similar specs, but I totaled off at about 870 dollars. Assuming the rebate actaully works, I'd be saving no more than $50. Maybe I'm just bad at finding cheap parts.

Re: For a pre-built PC
Generally prebuilt systems from online "shops" use terrible parts. They know that returning it or making a big enough fuss to hold them in any way accountable is time and cost prohibitive, so they max out profits by pickup up motherboards/vid cards/power supplies that are in abundant supply, often because they are defective/flawed and so selling poorly, or because they're just plain crappy parts.
If you continue with purchasing this hunk of crap, at least do yourself the favor of looking for reviews of every component that has enough info listed (looks like just the motherboard on that one).
You still won't know what brand of PSU, video card, hard drive, dvd, or RAM is in it, so you're basically rolling the dice, hoping they put quality stuff in there (lol?)

Re: For a pre-built PC
Note that they mention the power supply would need to go if you wanted to run an extra card too, good ones aren't cheap.
Re: For a pre-built PC
Im going the custom route.
I just created a quad core system that I fell in love with.

i've never had an issue with rebates, but i've always only done rebates with reputable brands.JooKed wrote:I didn't think it made a difference who offered rebates since various friends said their rebates never worked for various products.

i know you're trying to stay on the cheap but overall that looks pretty sweet. any way to convince you to spend an extra $100 for a case that will complement it and last you for many systems to come?JooKed wrote: Cheap Roswell Case - $17
good case=good airflow and low noise.
Re: For a pre-built PC
Maybe, I figure that if Im gunna spend this much on a PC, I might as well get some extras.
Is it worth throwing in another 2 gigs of ram and Vista 64 bit? Eh.. I dont think so.
I changed the case to this..

Seems to have a ton of great reviews, and its on the cheap side too.

Re: For a pre-built PC
more ram the better. 64 bit doesn't hurt anything either.
what kind of case do you prefer, the hot rod look or sleek elegance?
i never noticed a sound card in there either. onboard is good enough but a stand alone card is miles ahead in sound quality and performance in games.

Re: For a pre-built PC
My current sound system isnt too impressive. 2 speakers and 1 woofer which I estimate is around 1.5' x 2'. I dont have uber 17.1 surround sound or anything, so what about head phones?
Oh, case doesn't matter, as long as it isnt that old-school tanish grey color.
I threw in a Razor mouse and keyboard, since things are getting a little crusty over here. I'm currently using a HP laser mouse that has severely fadded out buttons. The scroll wheel also has lotion gunked it in...

Re: For a pre-built PC
a stand alone sound card will give you more fps in games. however you have plenty of cpu power for todays stuff but the next game out may make it start to suckhole.
Re: For a pre-built PC
Got a recomendation for a cheap sound card?
