I am using Photoshop 7 and running XP Pro. I have an image that is in a circle shape, but the total image is rectangular. The circle shape image is within the total image.

I want to cut the circle image out so it is a standalone image.

I have tried the slice tool, the background eraser tool, the marquee tool, etc.

I haven't had any success. Could someone please explain to me how to do this in a very simple and easy manner.

Thanks in advance.

you didn't mention the select tool. by default it's a rectangle, but you can change it so it's an oval. Fix the aspect ratio, and after a couple of tries I bet you could select the image out of it correctly.

Fixing the aspect ratio like mjrpes said is done while holding the shift key. When you got it selected like you want it, right click on selection >layer via cut/copy

Well don't forget when you save the circular image that it will not stay circular as a jpg, it will as a psd or gif tho

to change the select tool you have to hold the mouse down on the icon, then you can select the circular tool.

Thanks for the help.

I've got another one if you can.

I have an image and a background that is all one color. I want just the image and I would like to make the background transparent.

Is there an easy way to do this??

I know about the background eraser and all but then I would have to draw around the image to get rid of the background. As the background is all one color, I think there should be an easy way to just click something and "poof" the background is transparent.

You can use the magic wand or select/color range to grab the backround if it doesn't have the same color in the image. Then invert selection/ copy/new image with background transparent then paste. There might be an easier way, but I don't know it.

Go to File/ New. At the bottom of the popoup you can choose transparent/ background color/ or white. It should already be the size of whatever you copied from the other image.

Sometimes you have to use the background eraser tool THEN use the eraser toolto erase the background, sucks
