if it's a pop-up and if your getting unexpected pop-ups from porn sites etc.. then
disable messenger service

control panel
adminstration tools
services

if it's xp then enable if you want the xp firewall

small red sheild icon next to clock .. comes with SP2

messenger is disabled with SP2

Start, run, services.msc

Check inside there for one called "Security Center", if its in there, stop it and disable it from running.

could be remnants of a virus you have had or still have ?

try ad-aware and see if it detects anything.

Hold on you dont have service pack 2 but you have the red shield icon? You arent supposed to have that unless you have SP2 i thought :icon27:

Thats right. The security centre is an SP2-only feature.

ZA does a fine job. There are some buggy versions out there but they're all pretty old (3.4.* IIRC).

No, ZA is a good product. There is a good rule of thumb though: Don't trust a system that has been compromised. A reinstall is your best bet.

like Torm said, put that thing out of its misery. if the shield LOOKS like sp2's security center, but you don't have sp2, you've been had/compromised/owned.
