Need a cheap laser printer

Post by LBt1st »

I rarely print anything but when I do I want something that works. I'm sick of ink-jets drying out after months of no use. All I need is shit quality black and white to print the occasional UPS label, tax forms, maybe a google map, stuff like that.
Can you guys recommend me something?

I have an HP Laserjet 1012. 3 years old and still running on the first toner (they give you a full toner) with occasional-moderate use. Only complaint is that HP screwed up the Mac drivers so I can't print from my Mac over the network (works if I plug it in with USB).

Lasers are very cheap right now. The HP business ones start pretty low.

You can get a colour one for £130 too.

I also have an HP Laserjet 1020, it has done very well for me. I have always favored HP printers, they do work well (except the old mid-90s inkjets that would print out demonic symbols).

Many thanks for the suggestions guys. I'll check those out. The thought of running the same toner for a few years Really has me glad I'm going laser.

I bought an ML-2010 yesterday, since the reviews of the ML-2510 said that its faster, but very loud since it has an upgraded motor. I'm very happy with the ML-2010 so far. The quality of the prints and speed are excellent.

I have a question though. Does printing at 1200dpi uses more toner than at 600dpi?

It'd probably make a difference when printing a picture if you had a colour laser.
With an inkjet, I noticed on exel files that have cell borders, the lines are a bit jaggy when printing in draft mode.

Yes, it will use more toner. The reviews told you right, the 2510 is fast but its quite loud. Good to hear the 2010 is working out for you.

I changed a couple printers at work to print in fast draft. Printing was twice as quick and I didn't see a difference between the two.
We basically print end signs, shelf labels, etc.
