xbox 360 help
Can't connect to the Internet with xbox 360. The light on my router [Linksys befsr41] which is port 4 is not lit up. It is lit for the other computers. POrts 1, 2, 3.
In the settings for the Linksys, I have gone to applications and gaming and in the app line I put xbox. Then I put start 88....end 88 for port range. For protocol, I put both. For IP address it shows 192.168.1.blank. I put the last number after the first three of my other computers.
For the second line I put start 3074....end 3074, protocol both and same Ip address as first line.
I did these because it shows that Xbox needs ports 88 and 3074 to function.
Help?

Re: xbox 360 help
also, there is a known issue with old(er) linkies with Xbox's, have you checked Linkies website for a firmware update?
a friend had the same issue with a WRT54GS, but it was intermittent at best.

How?
Re: xbox 360 help
well, if the hub isnt showing any connection the xbox doesnt need configging (although it prolly does).
is there no lanconnection on the 360? are youusing a crosscable while you shouldnt, or vice versa?

Re: xbox 360 help
No, the cable is correct. I'm going to try phoning Linksys and see if they can help
Re: xbox 360 help
I don't believe the NIC in the 360 activates unless it's configured. I'm not sure on that tho... I use wireless.
Re: xbox 360 help
Been on hold with Linksys forever..gave up for now.
If I unplug router, turn off Xbox, turn on Xbox and then plug in router, the line for the Xbox shows on the router until I actualy try to connect with the Xbox. Then it fails and the light on the router goes out.
The Xbox shows that it is a wired connection, but it will not obtain an IP address.

Re: xbox 360 help
does the linksys allow for dhcp?
me xbox connection is wired and it worked instantly, no configuration needed. (i did reconfigure tho since i wanted a static ip for it.)

Re: xbox 360 help
yeah sounds to me like your linksys is set up for static IP. is that xbox brand new or did you get it from a chump buddy? is IT set up for dhcp also? if both are set up for dhcp you shouldn't have to fuck around with anything, even ports.
Re: xbox 360 help
Xbox is new and dhcp is enabled on router. I assume dhcp is also enaled for Xbox by default. I dont see a setting in Xbox to change it.
Re: xbox 360 help
system blade - network settings - edit settings
Re: xbox 360 help
Oh, yes I;ve been there before. Checked again and IP and DNS are set to automatic.
Other computers connect so roiuter is configured OK.

Re: xbox 360 help
you said the cable is correct, but is it a known good cable?
Re: xbox 360 help
Yes, plugged into a computer it is fine.
Re: xbox 360 help
I'm guessing you've read this document?
I know it's kind of the bs answer to question of this matter, but as I have never setup a 360 and you problem isn't resolved.

Re: xbox 360 help
On your computer open cmd.exe and type ipconfig/all
Now open your settings on the 360 and you'll want to manually enter the settings.
I've set the ip addy to 192.168.1.250
Then set your subnet mask and gateway to whatever it says in the cmd.
Now make sure you port forward 88 UDP and 3074 UDP & TCP in your router.

Re: xbox 360 help
Took it over to a friends place. He has same Xbox and his works fine. I plugged mine into his cable and stuff and got the same thing. Cannot find IP address.
Must be faulty network adapter. Never looked inside an Xbox. Is the network adapter built in or is it separate and something I can replace?

Re: xbox 360 help
i'm sure it's not that since he cannot get an IP address whatsoever. that usually just fails xbox live connecting.SOAPboy wrote:MTU settings?
corpse, just like you're thinking, it sounds like your NIC is toast.
