Deaththrows of an old vid card

Post by Plan B »

Just checking if I missed something.

I have started to get graphical glitches this week on my old pc I use for downloading/playing media.
From vague vertical lines, dots and patterns across the screen to fullblown Jackson Pollock.
I'm almost certain it's the video card (ATI 9700pro) overheating/being tired of life after 5 years of abuse.

Actions taken:

- latest drivers
- card out/vaccuum/card in
- format (!)

It's no biggie, I can just pick up some cheapo new card, but I want to make sure I'm not overlooking something and the problem remains, even with a new card.
Can't imagine what, particularly since the problem isn't there when I use the onboard video.

TIA

Cheap quick fix may be to remove, clean, then re-apply the HSF on the card.

But otherwise yeah sounds like it's giving up.

Thanks for the advice, but I don't think I'll bother.
I'll pick up a card after work because I have got myself some serious TV watching to do tonight.

No offence meant, but let's just expect Plan B's Plan B.

a13n, stop posting on this website. Every single member here thinks you're a fucking idiot.
