AdobeUpdater.exe is destroying my computer

It pops up when a pdf is opened, and there is one per instance of opening a pdf. no matter how many adobeupdater.exe's there are, they always equal out to max out my cpu and turn my 3.4GHz dual core into an abacus. and not even the good ones...

'end process' doesn't make it go away, the only way to get back to normal is to restart but I hate having to restart especially when i accidentally click a link on a webpage that goes to a pdf without knowing it.


So how do I make the AdobeUpdater.exe go away without restarting, and make it never come back when i open a pdf?

I use Foxitreader.

Help > Check For Updates > Preferences > Uncheck 'Automatically check for Adobe updates'

after i click check for updates the menu goes away, the pointer with the hourglass comes and then goes. nothing happens after that....

they took ver 5 of the oldversion site (rofl wonder why :P ) but its around.

afask version 5 quits when you quit and it doesnt take all the unwanted liberties of the newest version.

Same here. I got sick of Adobe's background services like updates and acrotray running all the time. Its totally uneccessary IMO.

So you found, downloaded, and installed something... rather than just disabling the 2 'features' of what you already had installed. Talk about totally unnecessary.

uninstalled acrobat, installed foxit reader. all is good now, THANKS!!!!
