LINKSYS

Post by Peenyuh »

What would cause a reletively new linksys to stop recognizing the modem? And, why would it refuse a reload of the software?

What model, and how are you trying to reload the software?

Have you searched google at all? TFTP loading or somthing?

Have you tried calling Linksys for there technical support, rather then MAking a topic with as little information as possible.

Honestly, this is right up there with. "its broke."

Yes, I searched the internet. Yes, I spent 4 and 1/2 hours on the phone with my ISP and LINKSYS. My question was aimed at routers in general because I don't think the problem is brand/model specific. AND, if you don't think my topic is important enough or up to your standards...ignore it. I DO apologize for your having to go through SO much trouble clicking on it and all.

Model: WRT54G
LINKSYS tried to reload the software by guiding me through the process.

Neither my ISP or LINKSYS knows whats wrong. LINKSYS is replacing the router. I was just wondering if someone had a thought on the matter.

The first post was rather sparse on information. What are you reloading? The Linksys wireless adapter drivers or the firmware? There isn't any actual software that you need for the router itself.

I suppose you've already isolated the problem to the router itself and it's not the modem, cables, wireless reception, etc?

http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/TFTP_flash

follow that, and upload this:
http://www-ca.linksys.com/servlet/Satel ... 5812181B03

if that Fails to fix it, just chill and wait for a replacement.

Else, Get DD-wrt on it ( micro will be neeeded ) and then you can tell it the WAN port is a number on the switch ( 1-2-3-4 ) and the issue would also be Fixed.

Whatever floats your boat.

Those are the same steps and downloads that LINKSYS took me through. I guess I just have to wait for a new router. Thanks again though. I appreciate the help.

In the future, save yourself the headache and don't buy Linksys.

Never had a problem with Linksys, so I don't know what creep is basing his post on. Several members here all have Linksys routers.

That's exactly what I was thinking of. I see those trucks everywhere. New router's coming soon. How come it takes 24 hours to get a bunch of dvds in the mail, but a week to get a router? :miffed:
