Twitter
I signed up for this a while ago, but I never use it. I don't really understand it, you type in an update of what you're doing and everybody can follow it. Woopytidoo, "I'm typing shit in Twitter and YOU are reading this shit". It's limited to 160 characters like a text message.
Maybe there's something brilliant about this 'social' networking. To me it's quite boring so far.

Re: Twitter
I don't understand it either, but it's a popular subject on a few of the podcasts I listen to. I don't get social networking. Instant messaging and IRC are about the farthest I'm willing to go.

Re: Twitter
I use a Dutch equivalent of Facebook and that's great to keep in touch with people you don't see often. A plus is that you can find profiles of high school friends you haven't seen in decades.
Who's on Facebook btw? (I hardly use that too)

Re: Twitter
I have a facebook page because me mum kept naggin. (it's the only reason I use Skype as well)
Facebook allowed me to get in contact with aunts and uncles I hadn't seen or heard from in years, which is cool but I'm not really the IRC or IM type. Shit..I haven't launched MSN in a long time.
I use SMS to communicate 90% between my friends and fambly and phone for the other 9.9999%.

It's good for keeping touch. Heck, I ended up finding some friends from Finland I hadn't seen for almost 10 years...saturn wrote:Who's on Facebook btw?

Re: Twitter
it annoys the shit out of me. everyone at the missus' work uses it and types all kinds of useless crap.
"Right now I'm making dinner. mmm macaroni!".
so fucking what. jesus. and most of them have mobile alerts turned on, to make it worse

I don't do facebook, myspace or any of that shit. Never really felt like it was my cup of tea. But now I feel like I may be missing out on something...

Re: Twitter
Use hyves, the same dutch thing saturn was talking about, for the same reason. But this... this is, well too obviously useless. How does it work? GSM, wifi what?
Re: Twitter

It's not a bad idea depending on who you are and what you're doing like this guy.

Re: Twitter
Bump.
Since we last wrote on this - I use twitter for:
WSJ
Quake Live
Planet Money
1st Mariner Bank
The last one I follow to see an example of a commercial adaptation of Twitter.

Add http://www.usetrackthis.com/ to that. That is such a godly service, it makes everything worth it.Unisaw wrote:Bump.

Edit: Hrm, they added some BS about Facebook and direct SMS updates. That's cooler. Earlier this year it was just available through twitter.
Re: Twitter
Quake Live was the reason i even knew this existed.
It does seem a bit redundant taken under consideration the countless of other effective "stay in touch" ways available to ppl.
But I guess just like everything else it has it's niche uses.
