a13n looking for mappers

Post by a13n »

a13n is currently looking for mappers.
The story is as follows.

I hit on a great map idea yesterday.
The problem is that I have little time to map for it.
So I need mappers to make my concpet come true.
My concept is:
1. 2vs2 or 3vs3 ctf map
2. in water foggy map(requires fog culling)
3. in water there are magical SF rooms which contain air
4. each magical SF room can be reachable within about 10 secs each other
5. the bottom of the surface is terrain, some area is very deep which may cause drowning
6. players can never reach the surface of water
7. levelshot contains my credit name

I'll post concept images and a power point presentation later.

I'll give this a chance, but to be honest, I don't think it's going to happen, only because pretty much any good mapper has too many of their own great map ideas (that they don't have time to finish) to leave much room for someone else's.

Good luck I guess. :)

Edit: And the reason I felt the need to comment here, and not in the other thread, is because that thread has a team of people and (at least partially finished) maps, models, UI, and so forth, which is a bit firmer ground to build on than a single idea.

especially the "levelshot contains my name" bit is going to attract mappers, for sure

Is it about LE&M? Nope.
Does it have anything to do with his original post? Nope.
Is it contributing anything to this forum? Nope.

Seems to fit. If you want to argue this with me, cool; please take it to PM.

There have been plenty of "LOL... GUYZ... I HAS DIS GREAT IDEA 4 LEVEL... CAN U HALP ME MAK IT?" posts around here which usually goes totally ignored to no surprise. So the fact that a bunch of you are hopping on this thread all of a sudden says something about the intentions of these posts. There is a certain level of idiocy that is tolerated on Q3W, but that is not the case in any of the technical subforums. Considering that...

Flames  Void.

P.S. I win last word competition, unless someone wants to discuss something on topic with this thread.

Whatever it'll be, you have only to d/l & install m$o2k7 file reader from m$.
Actually I'm still sticking to m$o2k.
While using m$oXP, m$o2k3 and m$o2k7 at work, I've found that m$ had intentionally been tight on essential features.
I mean m$ has maliciously postponed the implementation of user-friendly features to induce users to upgrade everytime they pee new version though this kind of cockieness is true of every capitalist.
GONNAFISTYA wrote:I'll make your map for one meeellion dollars.
Does this mean you are a paid mapper?
seremtan wrote:and what are you so busy doing that you don't have time to make a Q3A map?
Maybe I could make a quickie one in a day but it will be far from an ideal final product I'm imagining in my head.
ix-ir wrote:Q3's water movement isn't fast enough for this to be fun.
I've been thinking of making in-water-specific standalone q3 which includes brand-new physics and brand-new input method.
But as mentioned before, I have little time and few money.
If you could fund me, I would be a CEO of this project.

Now you are wanting peoplle to make a stand alone game, including physics and input for you without you putting in anything other than a general idea? I call official bullshit and call for an end to this charade. If this post is in error please delete. Thank you.

a13n, the chances of someone willing to pay you to have someone else make a map for you while you get all the credit is infinitesimally small - borderline zilch - so if that's how you want things done, you'll have to do it yourself. Other people on this forum can't exactly say that they have a whole lot of free time or money to toss around at their expense for someone else's benefit. If you still want to make your map, I encourage you to do it, just don't expect anyone to do it for you with your demands, you're just belittling your fellow mappers and its downright disrespectful.

As for everyone else, I can see some "joke" posts and those are fine to an extent. But there have also been a few personal attacks which are not tolerated here. Even if a13n's been setting himself up for one this is still not the place. If he's being unreasonable, I'll deal with it. You all know where to go if you want to pull that kind of trash. I don't care what you guys do in the void as long as it doesn't break the forum rules. I don't visit it very often, so for me... out of sight, out of mind.

I support pjw in giving the thread a chance, but quite frankly, you guys are screwing up any hope that pjw or I have that this place can be a civil place for mappers to get together and offer constructive criticism and to learn from each other. pjw's post was a warning, my post above is a second, consider this the third and final one. If you guys have nothing good to say, STFU, or I'll force it on you.

I really don't think it is. I think it's just incredibly unrealistic expectations with a dash of "this just might work". Either way, it's kind of silly (this latest approach, not necessarily the initial post).

I don't know that I'd go quite that far. :) This place is usually pretty cool. The problems happen when someone decides to go from criticism to personal attacks, like you said. This doesn't happen all that often, but when it does, other people (who are normally very good posters) tend to jump on the bandwagon, once that line is crossed. That's the part that bothers me.

Shouldn't you have linked here instead? In any case, from your link, "the implication that the person who is begging will suffer emotional and/or physical harm if the request is not granted" seems to be going a bit far. We're talking about a map/game, not "real world" stuff like starvation and homelessness and leprosy and so on.

You need to prioritize, in my opinion. If you "have little time", then free some up. If you can't do that, then this project of yours isn't very important to you, so there's no reason it should be important to us.

This is a place for help and cooperation, not begging.

There's a Q3A mod I played a few years ago that changed all the maps to be underwater. You could swim upside down aswell I think, or roll over for some reason, I can't remember exactly whether it was just rolling over or rolling over and ending up upside down.

You could try finding that mod, If you ask about it in Q3 Discussion someone might know where to find it. (I might have bookmarked it but I'm not looking for it right now, if you're interested I'll take a look through my bookmarks for it later.)

It doesn't have any air bits in it as far as I remember, so it's not exactly the same as your map idea, but someone said the swimming is too slow in Q3A - well this mod increased the speed of the swimming, and you said you were interested in there being a mod for it. Maybe that mod could be something to work from, or at least try to see what it's like :)
