A strange side effect...

Post by Ryoki »

Of the anti-smoking law that has been passed today over here:
Dutch coffee shops face a new challenge from today when a ban on smoking tobacco in restaurants and cafes comes into effect. The owners claim the law, which will allow customers to light up potent tobacco-free pure cannabis joints but ban milder spliffs in which tobacco is mixed with cannabis, threatens to put hundreds of them out of business.

"It's a bit like saying to someone you can go into a cafe and you can buy a beer, but you can't drink it there - you'll have to stick to whisky, rum and vodka," said Paul Wilhelm, owner of De Tweede Kamer, a popular Amsterdam coffee shop.
Hey, that's fucking retarded

That's weird.

I have to say I absolutely hate how the whole smoke ban is displayed in the media. Everywhere I see sad little smokers that cry their eyes out about not being able to smoke in restaurants and bars.
I for one am happy. I've always been hardcore anti smoke. There's nothing more gross than someone smoking in the same area as I am eating my food.

or they could just go somewhere else to smoke.
a restaurant is meant to get food. so dont smoke in my food area.

if i were to go to a cigarstore and complain about the smoke, then youd have a point.

as for smoking in bars. well. i know people smoke in bars, and if i dont want my clothes to smell of tabacco the next day, i dont go into the bar.
it is a nice that i dont have to worry about it anymore though, but i didnt complain before either.

Since they banned smoking in pubs its been fantastic. I can go out for a beer or 12 and come back smelling exactly how I went in, rather than smelling like I've just slept with Dick Van Dyke.

TBH, I think anybody that smokes should be shot on the spot, and those that dont die should be forced to live in caves in some remote part of the world where nobody cares about. Like England.

If non-smokers boycotted smoking restaurants, you could get the change you wanted to see. Passing social engineering legislation for the part of people who are militant anti-smokers is just a half-assed measure anyway. You either outlaw cancer-causing tobacco products (which I would support), or stop dictating to businesses what clientele they are allowed to serve.

The downside of the smoking-laws is that clubs now smell of fart instead. :P

Yeah...pretty retarded to allow people to come into your establishment to puff weed but tell them they have to go outside if they light up a cigarette. :dork:

And yet you fools still pump ten times the toxins of smoke into the air with your two and four wheel poison factories. Waaa! My clothes smell like tobacco! Waaaaa! I'm eating and I don't wanna smell yer smoke.

Get bent you skirt wearing sissies! I'll be at the Starbucks on Bradshaw in Sac today at 7:00p. Why don't you come on down and put my cigarette out for me.

now we ban cars, mountaineering, skydiving, spelunking and all other risky sports, followed up by a ban on ice cream, meat (except fish), snack foods etc

IT'S SO OBVIOUS :dork:

While the link between smoking and health deficiancies is clear, 40,000 lives saved is a rediculous statement. At the end of ten years, we'll just see how many more people are alive who wouldn't be. :dork:

WTF, are we in middle school here?
"Dude, smoking is so cool and manly! If you don't smoke, you're a pussy!"

I think the best idea is to ban retards, so I can't get sick from second-hand stupid like this.

Oh god, you go to starbucks, too. :olo:

That anti-smoking shit got passed here as well. I think the proper action would have been to provide an incentive for bars/ restaurants to go smoke-free, instead of a ban. There were plenty of smoke-free restaurants before the ban. Imposing a smoking ban on something like a pool hall is just idiotic.

OOp, looks like someone's going through withdawl... You need to go out and get another Fix so you can actually be tollerible to be around... Well, except for smell... or looking at your dirt sack teeth, well, in your case.. tooth.

Honestly, to me Smoking is up there with other drugs, They all have the same side effects ( in Diffrent degree's ) and the User needs a "fix" in situations or time limmits..

What's the governments incentive to stopping smoking? why should they care if people are killing themselves off by smoking?

The money society saves on healthcare from treating lung cancer and other smoking related illnesses is only going to be taken up, if not exceeded by treating sickness in old age, not to mention paying out pensions and state support for the elderly, who don't put anything back into the economy.

Bills like this help politicians get re-elected by certain constituencies.
