dvi to HDMI (pc to TV)?
dvi to HDMI (pc to TV)?
I'm guessing it's not as simple as getting a dvi to hdmi plug and connect my video card straight to the TVin.
and by quessing I mean I spent $40 on the plug only to find out it's not working....so what am I missing here?
I know that worst case scenario would be to get a v-card with true HDMI output option

Re: dvi to HDMI (pc to TV)?
Video card > DVI cable > DVI to HDMI dongle > TV's HDMI. It's that simple
The only thing to check is the resolution, I think some TV's will only accept a certain resolution coming from a PC to HDMI and nothing higher. The DVI to HDMI dongle shouldn't cost you $40, I got mine for under $5.

also a bit of a stupid question, does a true hdmi connection look marginally better than the dvi alternative?
this plasma tv is not even HD it's only ED

Re: dvi to HDMI (pc to TV)?
they are the same connection, so i couldnt see how that would happen..
the only thing that i could see about that is simple, the Filtering and etc that is on the ports, the TV could just display a DVI connection, yet Filter a HDMI.. but i couldnt see it being more then that.
Btw, Try 1024X768 or 800X600 if its only a ED-TV, thats all my old plasma could do with its VGA in.

Re: dvi to HDMI (pc to TV)?
HDMI and DVI carry the exact same signal and the video feed is exactly the same. That's why you can "convert" it by just using a cheap $5 dongle. The only thing HDMI does differently is that it carries digital audio as well, where with DVI you would have to use a separate digital coax or optical cable.
Re: dvi to HDMI (pc to TV)?
anyway seems like the "dongle " was defective or something.
I returned it and got a dvi to hdmi cable instead, that did the trick.
Now I have to figure out how to keep the resolution high and change the font size in general to something larger
(windows settings only alter some of the text but not all).
Also how can I fine tune the resolution borders? it's a bit cut off from all directions...crt's used to rock in this department

Your video card should have options for you to scale and Modify the Overscan settings..
And there is a Blind setting for font text and icons and junk.. i have it enabled on my media center.. i'll look for it again and post back.

basically i did this,
http://www.wikihow.com/Use-Large-Icons-in-Windows-XP
i did the Icons, and under Active window, it lets you change the text, Background text, Main text.. it was just a matter of skimming through them and making the changes.
For somereason i remember there being a Setting that will do it all for you, But i'm unable to find it.
