Hiring a car over 'there'.

Post by charliealpha »

Hello,

We're off to Mexico for 2 weeks over Christmas and we're looking at Thrifty for a hire car. We're not entirely sure what level of insurance we need though. Am I right in thinking that Loss Damage Waiver is all in? I'm presuming it is as it's $19 per day as opposed to Supplemental Liability which is only $11.

Also, I'm eager to hire something half decent. The missus is insisting on a Nissan Tsuru or some shit and I'm determined to go for something a bit more midrange like the Dodge Avenger.

The reason she wants to get a Nissan is because apparently it'll make us look less 'touristy' and we won't get mugged. It can't be that bad? We're going to Puerto Vallarta if that makes any difference and I'm pretty sure that if we use common sense then we're not going to get jacked :tard:

Might help: http://www.iii.org/individuals/auto/a/rentalcar/

If you are planning to rent a car abroad, contact both your insurance agent and travel agent to find out what you need to do to be properly insured. Those driving a rental car from the U.S. into Mexico may find it progressively more difficult to rent a car as U.S. rental car companies are increasingly concerned about the rising crime rates in that country. The minimum required insurance coverage to drive in Mexico is civil liability insurance which covers you in case you cause injury or damage.

Tiida is ok, and you're going to look like Tourists no matter what you're driving.

go for the Nissan ask for super dark window tints and the word:
GONZALES
printed in gothic letters across the top of the windscreen.
Well done, CA, i'm thinking this will be one you remember.
I would stay close to the city though just to err on the safe side.

Must remember to pick me up a string vest and a pair of low cut chinos :smirk:

But yeah, this is going to pwn. Can't wait. Incidentally the car hire drone-a-bot (his name was Danté, bendist) said just pay for the base cost then sort insurance when we get there. Makes sense.

Stick to the coast and try to time your stops in well populated towns. The farther south and inland you get, the greater the danger of kidnapping. At least if you stay to the coast you'll only get robbed. :olo:

Seriously, there's some beautiful places to see down there, and the food...OMG the food.

Oh yeah. Bottled water only and if you drink, stick to beer or straight shots. Trust me on this one. :paranoid:
