Good Afternoon,
I've been scouring the Web for info on what to set some key variables(or commands) to in order to get the best efficiency. I'm not a Quake newbie, but I haven't played since 2002. Computers are a lot faster and have much more RAM these days so I'm kinda out-of the-loop here!(I've been trying to get this Simpsons map to load too!!) The main things I need to know are: What do I set the com_hunkMegs, com_zoneMegs, and the com_soundMegs to? I'm playing on a Toshiba Satellite laptop with dual 1.60 Ghz, 1 GB of RAM, and 128 MB of video RAM. Any other advice to maximize efficiency would be appreciated!!!

i think the com hunkmegs are capped at 255. zone and sound are capped at 64.
the total of hunk + sound + zone should not exceed 3/4th of your total free memory.. but at todays standards 255+64+64 = 383MB is even less than 50% of your total ram.
so you can safely set them to 255, 64, 64.
