Real-time strategy game on Q3?

Hi everyone!

I browsed around Q3W a little and came across the "Bots" (commands) site. http://www.quake3world.com/q3guide/bots.html - Never realized that the game provides so many options to control them remotely!

Has anyone ever tried to make something like a real-time-strategy mod of this? What I'm thinking of is a CTF/Team Deathmatch game in which you control your team from the spectator's position, for example with a GUI that let's you combine different teammates/commands/locations/enemies.

Something like this (only much better of course;-)

Check out Iron Grip: Warlord by Isotx.

It's an RTS/FPS mix built on the Quake 3 code. The AI programmer(s) on the team are doing some pretty neat things with the existing bot code.

Wow, looks very professional indeed! :up:

From what I can read from their website (http://igwarlord.isotx.com/index.php), they haven't released anything (demo, beta) that gives an impression of the gameplay yet. But I'll keep an eye on it...

If you have Half-Life 2 you can download the original mod that this standalone is based off of. I think its something like Iron Grip: Oppression.

I had worked on some weapons programming for Warlord sometime around Christmas last year. I must say this has come along quite well from the last bits I had actually seen! (flames looked like puffs of paprika because I sucked at art)

I wish I could have continued working on this :(

Unfortunately I don't have HL2, but the gameplay of IRON GRIP: THE OPRESSION is described pretty detailed on this website: http://www.isotx.com/index.php?view=1621
One team consists of only 1 player who plays the role of a Rahmos City Legion Officer, burdened with the task to crush an insurgency which has started in one of the Rahmos cities..

He commands and creates AI controlled “minions” to flush out and destroy Resistance cells.
The opposing team consists of a group of human players. Each player chooses a unique hero character. This team plays a full FPS game as they use hit-and-run tactics to create anarchy amongst the Rahmos forces. The goals are clear and the stage is set: Rahmos needs to conquer all the Resistance key locations and the Resistance must kill the Rahmos officer leading the attack.

... Just had an idea how to fake that second part: I could give human players infinite "flight" and "invisibility" at their spawnpoints! :idea:
