Q3 map q3_strafin3 (alpha): request for testing

Post by menczel »

Hi,

This is Speaker, I am back! Unfortunately, I have to use a new user name (this is a strange story, see the note/rant at the end of the post if you are interested).

I have done another Quake map conversion (it is really a remix this time, since I added extra space to the original layout). The original map is called 'strafin3', it is a small and intensive DM map that was rather popular on Quake servers way back. I have the alpha version for Q3A. It looks ugly and lighting is kind of bland (so no screenshots this time), but the map is fully playable, has bot support and all items are present .

The map can be downloaded from here: http://menczel.extra.hu/q3_strafin3.zip

Please, test it if you have a little time. I would like to get comments and suggestions about the layout (game flow) and item placement.

Thanks!

------------------------------------------

So, why am I now 'menczel' (which is actually my real name) and not 'Speaker' as I used to be?

I was kind of inactive for about three months (for several reasons not relevant here). I did not post anything during that period. When I tried to use my account again, I found that it was inactivated. I would have had to reactivate using my activation e-mail I got when I first registered. Of course I did not have it: why should I keep such junk if I am not warned that I may need it later?

So, there I was, with no way to contact anybody (you have to be registered for that, catch 22). I registered as 'menczel' and first asked Obsidian to help me. He was rather nice and forwarded my reactivation request to the admins. Nothing happened for a week. Then I sent a direct request to one of the board admins, and again waited for a week. Result: nil. So finally I gave up and started to use my new account.

A few remarks here (my intention is not to start a flame war though):

1. It is really rude (and unnecessary) to inactivate a user account after only three months. If there is no activity for let's say a year, then it should be OK. Or even better, an automatic message may be sent warning that the account will be inactivated if not used within a certain period.

2. If I write a respectful message to someone, I expect an answer as common courtesy. Even if the answer says that unfortunately my request cannot be fulfilled.

I'll send another message on your behalf. TBH, I don't think it's an issue with inactivity, something else may have happened. I've been getting weird errors in my PM box so maybe something else is going on. :shrug:

@Obsidian:

Thanks. But please, just one more try. It is not a big deal using another account and user name, just somewhat irritating, especially to have 'recruit' status again... :offended:
