So was it a meteor or a meteorite?
I saw a fireball once from my balconey 15 years ago...the fucking thing left a trail across the sky and lasted at least 5 seconds. It's not something you forget seeing.
Those fuckers are moving faster than snot.

I'm guessing it was the size of a softball.

I suppose, you would think that something that bright would actualy make it to the ground tho.

I saw one so big here in northern cali that it split into 2 and the made a giant Y shape in the sky. That was about 14 years ago on a Halloween night. Thought it was lightning at first, but I knew the sky was clear that night.
Re: Meteor over Edmonton, Canada
I seen one once when I was a kid that wasn't that impressive but it was so close I could hear it flying through the sky, sounded like a firework that fizzles. it left a long streak behind it too which was neat.
Re: Meteor over Edmonton, Canada
Ya, it was an amazing sight. Saw it on my way home from work. I guess it spanned Alberta from south to north, and landed in northern alberta somewhere

If it hit the ground it would be called a meteorite, not a meteor.Doombrain wrote:incorrectandyman wrote: chances are it evaporated.

I'm guessing it was the size of a softball.
The meteor that lit up the skies across Alberta and Saskatchewan last week was a monster — according to scientists — with a mass of 10 tonnes and packing a punch equivalent to 300 tonnes of TNT.
And because it was so big, the burning rock may have scattered football-sized chunks of itself across 24 square kilometres near the Alberta-Saskatchewan border, researchers at the University of Calgary said Tuesday.
Re: Meteor over Edmonton, Canada
They have found fragments of it around Lloydminster, according to a UCalgary press release.

Re: Meteor over Edmonton, Canada
was it a cylinder, thirty yards across, glowing hot... and with faint sounds of movement coming from within. ?
