Next round of games...

Post by xer0s »

Well the holiday season is over and that round of games (gow2, fallout 3, pop, ect..ect...) is over. So what games do we now have to look forward to? Any must haves?

Resident Evil 5 and Killzone 2 are the only really big ones. I'm playing the new LOTR game now and it sucks.

Are there any redeeming features to the new LOTR game? Any particular shite aspects?

I'm currently really looking forward to Age of Decadence, Bionic Commando, Street Fighter IV and Riddick: Assault On Dark Athena.

RE5 I'm delaying judgement on, as I heard a few worryingly negative things about it when the Japanese demo was released. Nothing concrete, but enough to give me pause.

riddick looks promising :)

from that list:
bioshock 2. if it looks like the first one then it's worth the price just for the atmosphere and eye candy.
re5. had trouble with the controls on the demo, but not so many that i wouldn't buy the game.
hopefully cod5 will be the one to stop me always firing up cod:uo instead of the other sequels.

Chronologically, when does that take place? Before Chronicles of Riddick or after?

Oh... nevermind
While the science fiction first-person action game was originally anticipated to be a remake of The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay, it currently features enough content to be considered a sequel as well.

Having played RE5, it left me REALLY disapointed.. I hope I'm, wrong on that, but damn, was it bad. I mean, obvious mistakes that you really shouldn't be doing these days bad... And the control was terrible...

Anyway, for me, I'm looking forward to:

FEAR2
Rage
Killzone 2
Riddick: AODA
Aliens: Colonal Marines
Deus Ex 3
Bioshock 2
Mario and Luigi Super Star Saga

As for what I really want to at least SEE:

Theif 4
Doom 4

Well, they are different to RE4, but you can set them back to that old way if you want.

The problem is a little hard to explain... But imagine playing RE4 with every zombie faster, and about 10x as many. Imagine going up against the chainsaw guy in RE4, and then having about 20 zombies to shoot as well, all in the space of, say... The first room in RE4 when you meet the very first crazy zombie who attacks you.

Imagine doing all of this, all while you have another partner with you who is dumb as fuck, constantly yelling for you to save her... And when she isn't yelling, shes stealing what very little ammo there is in the first place.

So what it comes down to a lot of the time (at least in the demo) is you fighting with very, very little ammo, against about 20-30 fast zombies, with a chainsaw guy around every corner... Its not so much hard as it is annoying. I don't mind it being tough, I love that.

But when you have to aim at things, and you cant move, but everything else can, its just so poor... Its like Re4 evolved the genre so much, but then RE5 is just... the same thing.

And by the same, i mean THE SAME. The animations? Exactly the same. The gameplay? Exactly the same... The way you shoot a body in the foot and the zombie jumps 10 feet in the air, spins, and lands on its head floating 5 feet over an edge... THE SAME...

And thats the problem for me. I wanted (I did, not sure about you guys) RE4, with all the kinks ironed out, and all the next gen goodness added. But instead, its the same game, with the same problems, the same bugs, all made 10x worse because of the increased enemy count.

You should get the demo off the internet. All you need to do is burn it to CD, any CD/DVD, and it will play in any 360. The only thing you cant do is play online coop, so you have to play offline coop instead, or single player.

Yeah, and they've already "Re-made" it for 360, PS3 & PC; it was called Bionic Commando Re-Armed, and it was one of my favourite games of last year.
The one coming up is a full 3D world thingy, where Re-Armed was a side-scroller, very true to the NES classic, but with refined gameplay.
The challenge rooms have a very "Portal" feel in Re-Armed.

Bionic Commando: Re-Armed Launch Trailer

New Bionic Commando Gameplay Movie

As you can guess from the Re-Armed movie, the modern takes on the original music are fantastic too.

And I've just noticed that Machinae Supremacy, the same guys who did the Jets'n'Guns music are doing the music for the new game :D

Wow. I don't know how I missed Re-Armed, I'm going to have to pick that up for PC.

The new one looks pretty fun too, but I'm still not sure how natural the gameplay would be in full 3D.

Thank you for the links.
